Stupid question time.
If you bought 5 gallons of the crap and let it sit in an open gas can for x amount of time, would the alcohol evaporate out leaving only real gas?

You would faster loose a lot of the important lights from the gasoline. While some alcohol would evaporate, some would help to absorb water out of the atmosphere.
You fuel would be worse not better after a few days.

No but it does break down, open air or in your tank. Over time the ethanol breaks down and separates and that’s when you start getting water building up in your tank. It will pull in moisture from the air and make water. Which is why they can’t transfer in a pipeline.

(I can neither confirm or deny that; even if I could, I couldn't - it's classified.)
