Bill OReilly tonight responded to criticisms from the right over his commentary last week that gay marriage opponents need to do more than just thump the Bible if they want to win the argument. After a Talking Points Memo largely focused on mocking liberal media attempts to gin up a feud between himself and Rush Limbaugh, OReilly brought on Laura Ingraham, who actually told OReilly he was wrong in saying what he said. OReilly was stunned with Ingraham, shouting over her and telling her Im disappointed in you.

Ingraham first surprised OReilly by agreeing that there actually is a feud of sorts going on between him and people like Limbaugh, given Limbaughs harsh condemnation of OReillys commentary. OReilly dismissed the idea he and Limbaugh are enemies, saying I dont care what he says, he can say whatever he wants.
Ingraham agreed with OReilly that gay marriage opponents are not always good at making their case, but said OReilly unnecessarily insulted them. OReilly insisted he made an honest point about gay marriage, and shocked Ingraham by saying that opponents cannot cite the Bible in a policy argument. Ingraham told OReilly he was being disrespectful, which led OReilly to tell Ingraham hes disappointed in her.
OReilly scolded her for criticizing her for his accurate description, saying he doesnt really care whether it was unhelpful or if anyone took offense, it was an accurate and honest attack.

Bill O’Reilly doesn’t like AK-15-carrying Bible-thumpers.
I, too, was hoping she would do that.
I completely agree. I refuse to watch his show. At most, I do watch an occasional video when referenced on FR.
BOR is a spinning dufus.
I don’t think there’s a lot of Bible Thumpers in that district compared to other parts of South Carolina. The Charleston area isn’t Greenville. I think most of the thumpers voted for the other guy that Huckabee backed or didn’t even vote.
Can’t stand O’Reilly and he was an absolute idiot tonight.
However, he does have a point.
We shouldn’t be making our argument against same sex marriage based on our religious convictions. The left will just vilify us and claim we are forcing our religion unto them.
We need to use empirical evidence about the effects of same sex relationships on children.
There’s plenty of evidence showing the benefits of a nuclear family. Children born out of wedlock or to single parents homes face an uphill battle, and the fact is supported by an impressive amount of data.
Where’s the data on same sex relationships? I’ve seen a couple conflicting studies, but I haven’t seen any serious undertakings about this topic. I believe the data will favor traditional marriage.
This empirical evidence is how we can defend our views.
Perhaps Laura ought to dedicate her next book to O’Reilly, “Shut Up and Preen”.
He revealed who he really is a long time ago. He used to be against gun ownership - didn’t see the need for it - until Katrina hit NOLA. When he saw that the government and law enforcement can’t save you from thugs when society falls into chaos, he changed his whole opinion. That it took a disaster like Katrina to make him see the truth speaks volumes about his cognitive abilities.
And Ingraham will take it because she likes being a substitute host.
Most opponents of homosexual "marriage" are Christians, have faith in the Bible or the Church, and don't require natural law arguments to be convinced.
Still, it's a simple case to make. Marriage is a lifetime commitment between a man and a woman, for their mutual good, and for the begetting and raising of children.
The purpose of homosexual "marriage" is... what? A lifetime relationship? How is that different from friendship? Sodomy? That's "marriage"? So people are "married" to whoever they sodomize? The phrase "homosexual marriage" is nonsensical, like "square circle."
It will. Here is a prediction.... Laura is hoping or expecting to replace BOR when he leaves the factor. She's a 2nd tier talk show host, a 2nd tier author. Getting the factor gig is her dream job. I think it would be the perfect job for her. It would be a big improvement for everyone.
He thinks he is wiser than the Word of God. That will come to a bad end. His ego and pride are taking over.
Not many women divorce a guy a multi-millionaire and then marry a cop. It usually goes the other way.
You can’t base your impressions on what you think...it’s just not smart, especially on this forum. Trust me, and you should know, FReepers will eat you alive.
“We shouldnt be making our argument against same sex marriage based on our religious convictions.”
What no one has mentioned here is that Laura Ingraham is a devout Christian. She wears a cross necklace whenever she appears on Fox. For her not defend religious argument against gay marriage would be hypocritical.
That said, she is aware as anyone of the empirical evidence of damage to children of gay parents. And she probably would have got to that if BOR hadn’t blown up.
Got Mick Temper?
geez
I not only read the article I watched the show. The entire Ingram BOR exchange was incoherent mostly because BOR doesn’t make coherent points he wings it. Laura had little to say, as well. I do know that wherever her show is now on she will spend tomorrow replaying her appearance and going on and on about it. Laura Ingram and BOR both make me sick. When she said BOR and Rush Limbaugh are her “friends” it’s pure bs she is a self aggrandizing obnoxious name dropper.
I’m glad she’s not on the air in my town any longer.
Laura failed to articulate what should have been her point, which is that many people follow the Bible and it IS their basis for opposing gay marriage, therefore it is insulting to call that “Bible thumping”. Instead, she agreed that citing the Bible alone is not a sufficient policy argument, but that BOR still had insulted religious people, however she didn’t explain the insult.
Kind of like what the Muslims are doing to one another, Shia, Sunni, Alawi, etc. Frankly we are lucky our founders decided to keep religion out of our government.
Oh goody, another trash Blockhead thread ;-)
