PA Arabs Pessimistic on Peace

A majority of Palestinian Authority residents believe the US will fail to revive the Middle East peace process, according to a survey after Barack Obama's visit to the region, as reported by the AFP news agency.

The Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research's report, conducted March 28-30, surveyed 1,270 people in Judea, Samaria (Shomron) and Gaza.

"Fifty-five percent believe that the US administration will not succeed in reviving the peace process and bringing the two sides to the negotiating table," it concluded.

"Moreover, 70 percent believe that the American administration will not succeed in pressuring Israel to freeze settlement construction," it added, in a reference to Palestinian demands for a cessation of Jewish building in Judea and Samaria before any talks can be held.

On his first visit to Israel and the PA as president in March, Obama met leaders of both sides, and follow-up meetings with Secretary of State John Kerry signaled clear intentions to boost the stalled peace process.

But Israel's newly-installed government includes a number of ministers likely to strongly oppose any building freeze in Judea and Samaria, and PA Chairman Mahmud Abbas made it clear to Obama there would be no talks without a new building moratorium.

"Fifty-six percent believe that the two-state solution is no longer practical due to settlement expansion," the report said. Meanwhile, 71 percent of Palestinians were pessimistic about Washington's move to unblock $500 million in aid to Abbas's Palestinian Authority, saying it was not enough to address its current financial woes.

And the report also found a dramatic drop in the number of people optimistic that Gaza's Hamas rulers could reconcile their differences with Abbas's rival Fatah movement.

So who says we can't agree on anything. Only the unlikeliness of continuing negotiations makes me optimistic.

What’s the difference between “Arabs Pessimistic on Peace” and “Arabs Don’t Want Peace” ?

Why shouldn’t the Palestinians be pessimistic about peace, after all they torpedo any and every proposal that would be fair and recognize the the the nation of Israel and it’s right to exist. I don’t think anyone should expect anything different when a real people are dealing with a made up people.

That’s why they don’t want it. It’s outside of their conception of reality, like men living beneath the sea, or not beating their wives. Naturally, they are pessimistic. Peace? What’s that?

This whole article is just more deception and propaganda.
Asking “palestinians” (arabs) about peace is a bit like
asking Madonna or Lady Gaga about chastity

Maybe this is the break through needed in the Israel Palestine issue... both sides believe Obama is lying, two-faced coward who has no interest in attempting such a difficult feat when so much accolade can be earned for just being Obama. This is the kind of building block that can bring two sides together.

Sure. Bibi, Abbas and Obama will be in the same room. All Bibi has to do is hustle the two of them onto a plane and fly them the hell out of Israel. The Palestinians will thank him for ridding them of that corrupt little fart face, he’ll shore up his support on the Right for ejecting Obama, and we can then make real peace between neighbors without Obama’s ignorant, heavy-handed interference. No photo op. Still no basis for his unearned and aging Nobel Piece Prize. Just peace.

Only a bit like it, though. Madonna and Lady Gaga at least have distant memories of their one-time virginity. Palestinians are totally flummoxed by the word “peace,” though. Was that the horrible state of impurity Arabs were in before Mohammed came and taught them the greatness of perpetual war against everyone?

Peace is not a process. Raping the American tax payer while making false promises is a process.

Those who choose to play Jihad not only want death, they deserve it.

“Those who choose to play Jihad not only want death, they deserve it.”

That’s why we have an impasse. They want death, and we refuse to give it to them. Instead, we sit around and talk with them, and promise to give them less than what they want; i.e., death. No wonder they’re so PO’d.
