The U.S. military has moved a Navy ship capable of intercepting missiles to waters off the coast of the Korean Peninsula, as threats from North Korea's Kim Jong Un escalate and the White House signals it wants to head off any potential conflict by flexing America's military might.
A U.S. defense official confirmed to Fox News that the Navy had moved the U.S. destroyer to a location near South Korea. The ship, the USS Fitzgerald, is equipped with the Aegis defense system and is capable of shooting down missiles.
The defense official said the decision is not part of the ongoing joint military exercise with South Korea but part of the Navy's general movements. The Navy had the same type of ship in this location as recently as December.

"The threats are seen as part of an effort to provoke the new government in Seoul to change its policies toward Pyongyang and to win diplomatic talks with Washington in order to gain more aid."
I think we’re the regime’s biggest enablers. They play us like an aggressive panhandler working a busy intersection.
I believe the name of the ship in the Fox story is the USS McCain (not the USS Fitzgerald)?
The Norks simply run the biggest con-game on earth.
Right you are. Both the USS John S. McCain (DDG-56) and the
USS Fitzgerald (DDG-62) are Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, both stationed in Japan. Probably they used the DDG-56 pic because they didn’t have a close up of DDB-62.
With anyone other than barry he’d likely get his fool head blown off.
Got pics of the USS Cushing when she was at Yokosuka.
It’s Pyonpang’s version of Oil for Food.
So if NK attacks anyone but SK, we can stop it?
I am sure this makes the South Koreans feel better
Maybe if we send Rodman AND Madonna next time....??
Thanks. I read a little further in the second paragraph where it says “ Officials initially misidentified the ship but later clarified the USS McCain had been dispatched.”
So I guess it was the USS McCain that was dispatched, although it doesn’t really matter.
Prime time for a Nork sub attack.
Reminds me of the time I was in those waters and it was cold. I was aboard the USS Enterprise and that was during the Pueblo incident. I worked the flight deck and when the carrier would turn into the wind to launch the planes one would down right freeze to death. We would huddle around the exhaust of the APU units to warm back up.
so does China.
The only way to “reassure” anyone is for nobama to resign immediately.
Any day now I expect to start seeing reports of Muslim Brotherhood “freedom fighters” closing in on little Kim’s palace.
This could get nasty real fast—one mistake and people will die. I think the North will back down—but what if this is really China’s game and they want to cook Japan so as to steal these islands and grab Taiwan to boot. A quick war—say 7 days and all of Asia is in their pocket.
