The Japanese are actually OK with celebrity ambassadors because our relationship with them is so good that it doesn't matter so much. Walter Mondale did a credible job and came off as quite affable. I met him once at an official function when I worked there and was impressed with his congeniality.

These are good jobs for libtard "I want to teach the world to sing" types because they are occupied attending official parties, cutting ribbons and making small talk rather than doing potentially far more damaging policy positions.

The Japanese (especially my age) also have a certain nostalgia for the Kennedy family because their reign corresponds with the run up to the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo when the Japanese were officially welcomed back to the world of nations following the massive rebuilding and modernization after World War II.
