“one of our officers discharged, striking the suspect”

What was he suspected off? Making noise in his own yard? Maybe they should have just suggested that he take it to a range and let it go at that.

The guy on the property neighboring my subdivision shoots every once in a while. My neighbor ( a retired Army Lt Col) and his wife call the cops every single time. Despite them knowing its entirely legal.

He, or somebody else, was suspected of firing a gun in a residential district ~ and Bawlmore is incredibly densely packed BTW, so the cop came around to his backyard with his pistol already drawn.

Boy had no fire control whatsoever and just cut loose at the first figure he saw.

These East Coast cops really don't get the range time needed to make fine distinctions.

Maybe he should have done that from the start? If the police are responding to a call about someone shooting a firearm in their back yard and then come across a man toting a shotgun, then it's easy to see how that can end badly.
