They had plastic combs stuck in their hair, with handles hanging out like rudders. They wore neat looking clothing, but the pants were way low and both were holding them up with one hand. The one kid says, “I can’t understand it. I’ve applied just about everywhere and nobody will hire me.”

Just to help calibrate a bit here, you can't completely blame them - it's true, they really don't know why they're turning off potential employers. Who in their lives has ever told them that you can't dress like that and expect to get a job? Not their dad, for sure. Not their family or friends, or anyone they see in their neighborhoods. And they sure wouldn't listen to you or me.

Not excusing it, mind you, just observing that the problem is bigger than baggy pants and combs in the hair. Even if you were to solve the personal appearance problems, there's probably a mountain of other issues that would need to be addressed before productive employment could be realized.

I was at a bus station with a collection of those with baggy low trousers and caps turned back....my problem is that I couldn’t understand the half of what they were saying....it was not Austrian....must have been Ebonics.
