It is a little-known piece of trivia that the dialogue you quote from Slim Pickens in Stangelove originally was: “Shoot, a fella’ could have a pretty good weekend in Dallas with all that stuff.” Then the Kennedy assassination happened about the time the film was to be released, and they dubbed “Vegas” over Slim Pickens’ original “Dallas,” so as not to offend the populace.

If you watch the film when he says this, you can see that his lips are saying “Dallas”, but the sound was overdubbed to “Vegas”.

I knew that. But I was just a bun in the oven when JFK went away.

Slim Pickens was a favorite of mine. Especially in 'Blazing Saddles' I'm not sure he said anything politically correct outside of "I think you boys have had enough".
