A Republican Left Turn?

The people who run the New York Times have a lot of wrong views, but they are not stupid, they do their homework, and what shows up in their pages not only influences but also sets much of the agenda in Washington, D.C. What they write counts. Most Freepers understand that the New York Times has a liberal bias that affects their reporting, but in this case, it's hard to argue with their statistics, which appear to be thoroughly researched and carefully presented. The author is saying that the Republicans can afford to antagonize social conservatives because they have no place else to go, and the “leave me alone” message of libertarian conservatives can expand the party to a new audience.
It's a good and logical argument.
The problem is that for some of us, “social issues” aren't just red meat we throw out there to get angry people to vote for us. We really **DO** believe that God's judgment is coming against our country if we continue to defy His law. If God exists, and if He considers homosexuality an abomination, human logic pales in comparison to God's wrath.
Economic conservatism is important because God's Word has a lot to say about finances, but it isn't everything. As Genesis 13:10 tells us, Sodom and Gomorrah were well-watered cities on the plain which Lot chose because of their prosperity.
Those who choose secular economic conservatism and libertarianism over obedience to God have chosen the way of hellfire and death for eternity, and quite possibly destruction in the here-and-now as well.
Human logic has limits, and God's law is one of those limits.
