What to Cut: Red tape stalls firing of ineffective federal workers
Fox ^ | March 27 2013 | FNS

Working for the federal government used to mean a trade-off -- lower salaries, in exchange for higher job security. Today, that trade-off is gone as federal workers often make good money with little risk of being fired.

Though numbers are hard to come by in the mammoth 2.4 million-employee federal workforce, an analysis by USA Today found the federal government fired only one half of one percent of its workers in fiscal year 2011. That's about five times smaller than in the private sector.

If Congress and the Executive Branch are loath to confront the bloat in government, there may be good reason. Firing federal workers is hard.

All of which isn't particularly relevant since the overwhelming majority of federal employees WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Your representatives in Congress make sure of that.

BTW, when George Washington lived here BEFORE the Revolution, the richest counties were all in the immediate area of what would later become the Washington DC SMSA.

Half the people lived in Virginia in fact!

DC is a quaint suburb within the Greater Fairfax Virginia Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area ~ and you are concerned with what its industry might be?

It's welfare to single black women with AIDS.

That’s a typical fallacy from a socialist propaganda outlet, Fox News. The issue is not firing them. It’s not difficult at all to lay them off for lack of revenues.

Well cherry, if the federal workers have such substantial wages and have superior benefits and fat pensions, why don’t you get a federal job???? Let me guess, you don’t have a real college degree and wouldn’t qualify for a federal job in the first place. CBO said federal workers are overpaid by something like 25%. TOO BAD PEOPLE LIKE YOU DIDN’T READ THE REST OF THE REPORT THAT SAID FEDERAL WORKERS WITH TECHNICAL DEGREES, ENGINEERS AND SCIENTISTS, ARE UNDER PAID BY 15-20%. Oh and as for fat pensions, workers under CSRS after 40 years get 75% of salary, where current workers under FERS get 1%/year or for 40 years they get 40% of salary. Sounds FAT to me.

Although I'm not concerned with the compensation our Armed Forces folks get (IMO,they don't get enough for what they do) I *do* care what those fat a$$ed,surly, pompous, abusive *civilian* paycheck recipients get...from the President and Cabinet secretaries right on down to the lowliest $75K/yr affirmative-action clerk typist.
