If they strike DOMA down on states’ rights basis, it would be difficult to strike down Prop 8, or so I would think.
I would rather have DOMA fail than Prop 8.

I think that's what's going to happen.
Unless the spineless SCOTUS decrees that citizens don't have standing to defend ballot measures, which would be disastrous. State governments would be given a default veto over all public referenda.
