In my days of working for corporations I have actually been treated as if I were an idiot because I did things by the rules as stated by the management. These were always rules that were treated as inviolable as far as official policy is concerned but when they slowed things down they were supposed to be ignored. Sometimes supposedly iron clad safety rules were ignored by management in practice but given total support verbally. The official policy at this restaurant probably says that NO ONE is to be served if they are carrying a weapon.
