Nobody every thought it was required until the birthers made it up.
It was never required in the USA, by any Constitutional language.
Of course Congress has changed the qualifications for citizenship at birth for those not born on US Soil several times.

Yes it proves that the standard tradition, since the grandfather clause ended, that American presidents have been born to TWO U.S. Citizen parents (with the exception of Chester Arthur).
