Get some better shoes and don’t you get to relax for two weeks over Christmas, one or two weeks during spring break, all summer, 52 weekends a year and various and sundry teacher break days?

Yes, but I still have to walk around. I go to the store, I do laundry, I clean house... I've found that people with "bad backs" can often handle all the things they need to do quite well.

Are you exercising?

Yes.

Dont’ you get the parking places close to the building while the students who are paying your salary and benes park far away?

No. I ride the bus. I walk about 3/4 of a mile home from the bus stop, but that's okay, I consider that exercise.

Don’t you get off about 3:45?

No. The students leave around 3pm but I usually have enough things to do (usually on my feet -- getting books, running copies, hunting down people to handle some business or other) to keep me till 4:30pm.

You miss my point. I'm not saying it's a bad job. I like my job. I'm saying that these folks not having higher education is no excuse to bilk the disability program. I have a higher education and it doesn't automatically guarantee a sit-down job. I also have back pain but that doesn't automatically mean I should quit working and scam the system.

well, you are right. Teachers, like my grandmother and you, used to be dedicated and hardworking. These malingerers who can’t work because of questionable bad backs and “nerves” are a drain on all of us.
