This is a perfect example of how, if the homeowner had not been armed, Brown told reporters, this incident could have very well had a different, tragic outcome involving our residents.

When seconds count, the police are minutes away. Little doubt that two suicidal teens would have thought nothing of killing a middle age couple.

These guys are serious Darwin award candidates. Breaking into any house in Texas is a crapshoot but these rural homeowners ALL have guns

The husband was able to retrieve two rifles from inside house, and return fire.
My kind of guy - a two fisted drinker shooter.

The names of the two sound middle class white. High school age. Stole a pickup. Parked it out of sight in a field. Determined to rob
this house to the point of engaging in a shootout with husband and wife who were home and well armed.
Why? Get in the stolen truck, get the heck out of there, ditch the truck and escape. Then, the suicide pact. Killed themselves independently of one another once they'd failed to rob this particular house.
Weird. Maybe robbery wasn't what they were after?
There's a lot more going on here than is being told.

Bothced Texas Burglary Welcome to Bothced, Texas.
There's something ironic about that, but I can't quite figure it out...

Sure would be interesting to know what kind of rifles they were.

Lessons learned:
1)Never fire a "warning shot." If you have to shoot someone, shoot to kill.
2)Homeowner was lucky he wasn't shot retrieving weapons from his home. In today's environment it is wise to have a weapon on you and/or in your vehicle.

According to some accounts the 17 year old Chaffin had a history of running away from home.
He stole medication, a truck and the firearms from his family in OK.
I suspect drugs were involved and that was the motive for the break-in.
It is unclear why the other young man was involved and killed himself.

Why is this a mystery? It looks pretty obvious to me. Kids decided to act out some fantasy from their gaming, picked on the wrong people, got shot and killed themselves.
Sad, true and fatal. So sorry, move on.

Given the circumstances, I’d wager they had more on their minds than stealing things. Just a hunch.
