You skepticism is healthy, I believe. The bullet wound to the leg of the mother strains credulity. Why would they kill the baby and leave an adult witness to what is clearly a capital crime? (Remember the Charles Stuart case, where the killer-father shot himself in the abdomen?) It could be a Susan Smith caper, or it could have gone down like she said. You realize, that whatever the truth is, people who do these kind things are not very good at weighing the consequences of their acts.

I only hope the truth comes out and the baby’s killers are swiftly executed. (If the mother did it, she surely had an accomplice, possibly even the baby’s father, but more likely her current boyfriend.)

Maybe the idea was to inflict maximum pain on the mother. If she had been killed she wouldn't be suffering because of her son being murdered.

If the killers are caught, they won't be executed--and they will probably be free to walk the streets at 21 and hunt for some more victims.
