The best example of this in modern times was the White House's moves, immediately after 9/11, to denounce and warn against nonexistent violence against Muslims living in the US, but there are many, many other examples.
This creates an asymmetry in which the Left never, never, NEVER abandons one of their own who gets into trouble, while our "leaders" always, always, ALWAYS either join in or turn away from a left-wing lynching of one of our own.
Larry Auster, who lies mortally ill with pancreatic cancer, has been very aggressive in pointing out how many "conservatives" in fact subscribe to the liberal zeitgeist regarding human nature. Portman can support imaginary marriages because his son is gay, while Feinstein/Malloy/Cuomo would waver not a millimeter if a child, for example, joined the NRA.
Which is why I call being in the establishment a mindset more than a membership (since some people can be in sometimes and out sometimes) - and it’s described as an “infirmity” in the book.
