“The other matter that is never discussed is how to dispose of human fecal matter (you can pee anywhere). Our plan is a 5 gallon bucket lined with plastic bags for each use. Disposal is not a problem.”

I have thought of that as well. Here's what I think may work
Sort of an instant outhouse.
1.Seymour AUA2 Adjustable Auger to dig the hole.

2.Guide Gear® Pop-up Privacy Shelter with Camp Shower, also doubles as potential outhouse.

3. Rid-X or garden lime for odor control

4. Plenty of TP

5. Inflatable kids pool from Target. Instant cistern for wash water. They run about 900+ gallons some more some less.
Cover with tarp and treat water with pool shock to keep algae out. They can be filled from water line if intact or roof run off.

Water can be a problem in California insomuch as the rainy season is essentially over. What Cali does have at least along the coast is fog. Look into water harvesting from fog. Its done in the 3rd world with reasonable success

Hadn't thought of that! Thank you!

Our plan is to use the motorcycle (if that bad) and go to the (2) nearby man-made lakes and use our filters.

The one thing I've never seen on Prepper Shows or Prepper threads, is the fact that every household has 50 gallons of potable water in their hot water heater (not to mention their toilet tanks). If not end world, that alone could last until services are restored. Attach a short length of hose to the drain outlet and you have drinkable water.

For hygiene, think baby wipes. We always have a supply of "Mom To Mom" unscented baby wipes.
