Family’s Home Raided over Facebook Photo of Child’s Rifle (NJ)

New Jersey police and Dept. of Children and Families officials raided the home of a firearms instructor and demanded to see his guns after he posted a Facebook photo of his 11-year-old son holding a rifle.

“Someone called family services about the photo,” said Evan Nappen, an attorney representing Shawn Moore. “It led to an incredible, heavy-handed raid on his house. They wanted to see his gun safe, his guns and search his house. They even threatened to take his kids.” Moore was not arrested or charged.

This is the Facebook photo that led to the police raid. A Dept. of Children and Families spokesperson told Fox News they could not confirm or deny an investigation or raid had taken place due to government regulations.

“The department has a child abuse hotline for the state of New Jersey and anybody can make a call to that hotline,” spokesperson Kristen Brown said. “We are required to follow up on every single allegation that comes into the central registry.”

The story was first reported by The Blaze.

Moore, of Carneys Point, is a certified firearms instructor for the National Rifle Association, an NRA range safety officer and a New Jersey hunter education instructor.

He recently posted a photograph of his son wearing camouflage and holding his new .22 rifle. The child has a New Jersey hunting license and recently passed the state’s hunter safety course...

In Texas you can bring 9 year olds to the shooting range and even have birthday parties there. There is nothing even remotely alarming about this pic to me.

It is much the same in any jurisdiction.

Remember this, and if things get ugly, you know where to drop a dime from a non-traceable phone on the opposition.

Well, he looks like a happy kid!

People should keep in mind that Facebook is like taking out a full page ad in the newspaper. I would not doubt that those who dislike an individual's stance on any issue are mining social media they can access for things to use against political adversaries in order to neutralize them.

Interrupt a public statement or press release with the yadda yadda about how the speaker was investigated for child abuse and those who don't know the backstory might dismiss the speaker or any point they might bring up. At the very least it will cast doubt on the veracity of the individual.

Unfortunately, the accusations can be made anonymously, which makes certain that any political motivations are screened by that anonymity.

(Alinsky, writ large, the mere accusation becomes the equivalent of bringing up an arrest record in court--even though there were no convictions, it still makes the defendant look like a career criminal.)

Carney’s Point.

Meanwhile, Camden, Trenton, Newark, Elizabeth, Paterson . . . all no-touchy there.

This is Aubhefung der Familie in action. The actual shedders of blood are ignored. Talk about twisted priorities.

See post 14. I don't write the rules, or those people would be out of business.

But, yes, they are required by law in many jurisdictions to follow up on any complaint. You haven't lived until that BS has been aimed at you.

BTW, if the Social Workers think they need more caseload, they will lie to take a run at you. If you find yourself in that position, get a lawyer with teeth and don't talk to the Social Serpents. Anything you say will be distorted to look like a violation of the rules they seem to make up as they go along. Those rules are highly subjective, and the wisp of a rumor is treated by them as Gospel.

The photo is owned by the kid’s father who took it and put it on facebook, right?

so has he said anything about it being made public by media and others?
