well the article says “Paul said he sought to turn illegal immigrants into taxpayers, which could ultimately lead to their becoming citizens.”. So I stand by my earlier statement pending any new additional information.
On Hugh Hewitt’s radio show today, I heard Rand Paul say that under his plan, illegals would get work visas, which means legal status, immediately, with border enforcement to come later. So maybe the illegals don’t get the “probationary legal status” that they get from day 1 in Rubio’s plan, but the effect is largely the same. Under both plans, illegals get to stay in the U.S., work legally in the U.S., and give birth to children who will be automatically deemed U.S. citizens. The people who stayed in their home countries and followed the rules do not enjoy these benefits. The illegals get the preferential position. Those who did not “butt” in line, are made to look like suckers.
