Why is it that nobody in the GOP is talking about mass deportations? They keep saying “we can’t deport all of them.” WHY NOT? I am sure we could. Let’s start tomorrow!
President Eisenhower did deportations during the late 1950s. It worked quite well, as millions witnessed the government’s actions, and self-deported.
“Why is it that nobody in the GOP is talking about mass deportations?”
The time for the mass deportations and sealing of the border was during the George H.W. Bush administration when there was enough popular support for such a move. Instead, Pappy Bush decided not to enforce the recently passed 1986 immigration act. Clinton, Bush II and Obama have continued the lax administration of immigration law. Today’s electorate would not support mass deportations even if Congress and the President had the will to enforce the law.
There are consequences to allowing presidents to decide which laws they will and will not enforce. The current immigration mess is a legacy of Pappy Bush failing to do his Constitutional duty.
That's never going to happen. Most everyone is afraid to offend the rapidly growing Hispanic voting demographic. "Mass deportations" doesn't particularly poll well among that group. I'm all for it, but it is just not going to happen. The reality is those people are staying. The most we can do is prevent them from voting as best we can - that means we have to oppose amnesty.
