Bloomberg wants to ban tobacco on display
My Fox NY ^ | 03-18-2013 | The Associated Press

A new proposal would require New York City retailers to keep tobacco products out of sight under a first-in-the-nation proposal aimed at reducing the youth smoking rate, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday.

The legislation would require stores to keep tobacco products in cabinets, drawers, under the counter, behind a curtain or in other concealed spots. They could only be visible when an adult is making a purchase or during restocking.

"Such displays suggest that smoking is a normal activity," Bloomberg said. "And they invite young people to experiment with tobacco."

I don’t know of anyone who gives Nanny Bloomberg a pass.

Recall that his first response to the Times Square bomb plot was to blame an overweight middle aged white male tea party patriot, probably upset over Obamacare.

He’s a “former” Democrat and whole hog liberal.

He tried to ban Happy Hour.

I’m sure some of my favorite restaurant/bar owners told him what might happen to him if he did.

And now the long-suffering candy store owners will have to cover their cigarette cases with a tarp or something. How are they going to put them in drawers or closets? Does Bloombird know how small these places are? Has he ever gone into one to buy his own newspaper?

Any suggestions for what message should be on the tarp?

He is funding anti- gun agenda, including funds to candidates in other states committed to his agenda.

I`ll bet the jackass Bloomberg stole toys from other kids because "they were having to much fun, dammit".
Some people just plain need a punch in the kisser.

This little pissant has gone power-mad and become the Nanny from Hell. Who the f’ck is some little twerp of a mayor, even one from New York City to go around telling honest business people, merchants , vendors and the public what it can/can’t eat or drink something in any amount? This little pissant need to stfu!

Instead of playing these games, why don’t they just outlaw tobacco?

Have you ever seen the tax revenue that tobacco produces? They'll never outlaw it, just make it more expensive and then wonder why their precious revenue stream is drying up.

Maybe we should ban congestion and dirty cities and therefore that sewer known as New York City.

You ever see that Nazi-esque thing he does with restaurants, tagging their windows with letters all in the guise of "public health"? You know, like A = OK, B = just ok, C = just passing and D = fail? He's doing that to candy stores now. Small stores that sell newspapers and M&M candy. I saw 3 last week.

I'm 51 years old. Lived in NYC my entire life. Never in my life have I EVER gotten sick from eating a pack of M&Ms. How in the name of God is a pack of M&Ms or newspapers a threat to public health?

This is absolute Nazi tactics, just like the Nazis would tell the public not to do business with a store by writing "Jude" in the windows, so this SOB does as well. Absolutely no reason for it other than to flex his psychotic lust for power.

Look at this one pic I found...C..They fail. Do not do business with them under order of Der Fuhrer!

Liberals think tyranny can't happen in the good ole US of A? Come to NYC.

I find this entire thing astonishing.

I grew up in a generation that played war with toy guns and rifles and “smoked” candy cigarettes until we were old enough for the real ones.

In the wonderful fifties we smoked, drank martinis, drove too fast without seatbelts, and ate whatever we damned well wanted to eat.(And that included soda and potato chips.

We didn’t grow up violent or fat,and most of us lived longer than our life expectancy.

Bloomie is in serious need of psychiatric care——there is a lot more going on here than caring for the health of New Yorkers.

The man isn’t just silly, he’s dimwitted and myopic. What he should have banned with all the strength he could muster was the obscene, health-threatening proposal for a jihadist mosque on ground zero. That he supported!

Yeah and therein lies his hypocrisy. Bloody little Cesar can't be satisfied with his own recovery, he's going to make sure everyone else is too. "I quit and so you have to quit too''. Little jerk.

So, the mayor can tell a private business how to advertise. Woudn’t this fall under the category of free speech?

I can’t understand why the tobacco companies don’t stop selling their product in New York. It would take them about one week to start back tracking.

It’s partly a scheme to make money from the fines. The things that count against restaurants are ridiculous. An ice cube on the kitchen floor. A hair on the kitchen counter. A certain number of points and your rating goes down.

I remember when they used to publish the results of the health inspections in the New York Times. They ruined many an honest business that way, because often it was because the owner refused to bribe the inspectors. Then it all came out.
