Venezuela's Maduro pleads with Obama not to kill rival

Venezuela's caretaker president, Nicolas Maduro, asked Barack Obama to halt a plot to kill the opposition candidate in next month's election.

You see, it's complicated. Maduro - sort of a "Hugo-lite" - announced last week that his government had uncovered an insidious plot to kill Henrique Capriles, leader of the opposition which would be followed by a coup of army officers friendly to America.

Obviously, Maduro is worried that he doesn't have the election in the bag.

From Reuters:

"I call on President Obama - Roger Noriega, Otto Reich, officials at the Pentagon and at the CIA are behind a plan to assassinate the right-wing presidential candidate to create chaos," Maduro said in a TV interview broadcast on Sunday.

Maduro, who is Chavez's preferred successor, said the purpose of the plot was to set off a coup and that his information came from "a very good source."

During his 14 years in power, the charismatic but divisive Chavez, who died March 5 after a two-year battle with cancer, often denounced U.S. plots against him and his "revolution." Critics dismissed those claims as a smokescreen to keep voters focused on a sense of "imperialist" threat.

In kicking off the opposition's campaign in the provinces on Saturday, Capriles said Maduro would be to blame if anything happened to him.

He had about as much to do with it, as I did....but of course that didn’t stop him from taking the credit for it.

The real, serious issue to to punted to the US State Department is: "Do you recognize the government of Nicholas Maduro as the legitimate, constitutional government of Venezuela?" We want an official, clear cut answer from State Department, YES or NO. Because Maduro's presidential oath of office violates the Venezuelan Constitution directly. Only verbally did Hugo in his cancerous state say "I want you (Nicholas) in charge", but legally that doesnt amount to a pile of Caracas horseshit. The rightful President (acting) until elections is Cabello, the speaker of the National Assembly. When this phony swearing in took place, it was a military coup d' etat, the people nor constitution did not decide, just dead Hugo's verbal OK, and the Chief of Staff of National Defense giving a press conference in full uniform backed up by senior staff saying "I support Maduro as President and his legacy to continue the work of Hugo". Sorry, that does not cut it. Anyone can read the Venezuelan Constitution on powers of succession in event of death or incapacitation of the President. It is in plain black and white. They just made up the rules and sworn in (former VP) communist Maduro, even though the Opposition, including Capriles, boycotted the session in the National Assembly (although smiling Jesse Jackson was there to take a bow).

OK Obama and Kerry, do you recognize this Caracas government is legitimate? YES OR NO???!!! Is Maduro legitimately "acting" President of Venezuela? Have you recalled either the US Ambassador or Charge d' Affairs over it? Are the credentials of the Ambassador of Venezuela to the US legitimate?

Hussein embraced Hugo.

Hussein will embrace Maduro.

I am going to call them in D.C. or at the Embassy in Caracas, either place, and pose the question, to see what kind of BS answer I get for them rationalizing support and diplomatic recognition of “acting” President Nicolas Maduro, a fraud and an unconstitutional embarrassment. Of course, they also supported the illegal socialist government of Zelaya in Hondurus which Venezuela supported in an attempted coup, rather than the legal government put in place by the Supreme Court and National Assembly. Obama will support the rise of any Socialist Government in Latin America, opposed by a non-communist opposition, let alone their own written Constitution and procedures for legal succession. Communists! All of them. From Caracas straight into the West Wing of the White House.

That this is a totally bogus cover for his own plans to assassinate his rival is confirmed by the bizarro premise that Presidente Zero would do anything to abet a right wing military coup 'friendly to America.' Who would stupid enough believe that?

“Hussein embraced Hugo.”

I’ve seen pictures that prove he did a lot more than simply embrace Hugo.

Well the Obama State Department DID provide assistance in the murder of a POW named Momar Gaddafi. "WE came, WE saw, HE DIED!" - Sec. of Hate Hillary Clinton.

Hugo embraced Gaddafi.

Obama had Hugo's pal murdered.

Gaddafi was Mandela's pal as well.

Obama is not America's pal.

A woman I know was in Venezuela on a business trip. I think she said she was in a bar at the time Hugo was giving one his his several hour televised speeches. At some point the crowd erupted into laughter as Hugo insisted that women boycott Western tampons and use corncobs instead.

Nutjob country. How bad do things have to be that you'd tolerate such poor leadership just for the laughs?
