One year??
One year??
Yes one year. The judge may have received a call (and more) from Obama.
... with the determination for a longer sentence coming from child-service experts.
I’m not sure what exactly this means, but I hope that it means that they’ll be there till they turn 21.
Juvi’s - should have been tried as adults, or at least sentenced to something more in tune with the nature of the crime. A little street justice from the girl’s father and his friends would maybe set things right.
They were tried as juveniles. When I prosecuted in VA, it was pretty standard for something of this nature for a judge to give an initial sentence of around a year with review after a mental, etc evaluation. The Judge is likely bound by statute and can only do so much. Again, a rather typical sentence given all the facts.
However, they may indeed get the maximum (to 21 years) when it’s back for review.
Also, the statute likely prohibited them from being tried as adults.
So, oddly, the judge probably maxed them with what he could do.
