Unfortunately Republicans’ natural posture is to be on defense, if they’re even on the field at all. Most of the time they are content being spectators in the grandstands.

An author I've read has said that is the problem with conservatism - it's like being in a castle while the left is outside chipping away at the walls. Sooner or later they will get in. Part of the problem is that Republicans allow themselves to be shamed into being passive.

Or appeasing the Democrats, which of course only encourages them to demand even more “compromises”. Weakness invites aggression.

I don;t know why most Republicans just can’t understand this simple concept: If you’re going to get attacked no matter what you say or do, you may as well fight back. As Cruz is demonstrating, and Scott Walker has confirmed, fighting back puts your adversaries on the defensive.

You have to be tougher and stronger than your adversaries to win. We need fearless conservatives with fire in the belly and unshakeable convictions. That’s what victories are made of.
