I see what you did there. Good job!
I believe Obama and hitler used the straw man extensively in their speeches. They are both famous for pitting one group against another. I know Obama uses straw men very often. I will look at Hitler’s speeches to see if I can find examples.
No, that’s a quote from a man from eastern Europe who suffered under communism. I should have noted that.
‘’OH NOOOOOOO!!
You’re right. But the autobahn was designed primarily for military purposes.
As was our interstate highway system, that was Eisenhower's motivation.
National System of Interstate and Defense Highways
It was. The German railway system, one of the finest in Europe at the time was designed to do the same. The real story however was the massive swindle the Nazi Party committed in selling Germans on ‘’The Peoples Car’’.
Doesn’t take any real research at all. Hitler constantly used ‘’The Jew’’ as his straw man. Jews in Germany at the time constituted less than 1% of the total population but to hear Hitler tell it they were a majority.
The real story however was the massive swindle the Nazi Party committed in selling Germans on The Peoples Car.
Yep, Socialist “stuff” for the masses.
Yep. Obama also has the same effect on people during his speeches. But, he is doing more than just providing straw men.
He uses the same technique that high-powered salesmen use to get people to agree with them against their better sense.
As Obama speaks he lays out a series of agreeable ideas followed by an idea that sometimes does not make sense. But, the whole time while you are listening to him you are shaking your head in agreement. (That is if you are not really listening to him.) When he comes to that last idea in the set, he has opened your mind to accepting everything he is saying.
For example, he paints a story about how great the WWII generation is and you are in complete agreement with his sentiments as he speaks - yes, they did sacrifice for the war effort, and you shake your head to each picture he adds - yes, yes, yes, yes. And then, he will say something like, "And that is why I am the President of the United States." Which if you are really listening seems out of place.
Have you ever wondered why he hesitates between each statement? That is his calculated effort which provides you with the opportunity to let each agreement soak in. Sorta creepy when you think about it.
If you really want to see what I mean just google his acceptance speech at the 2012 Democratic Convention. Print it out and take two highlighters and go through the speech and separate "set up" mind pictures from the concluding idea in each set.
I did that. It was a real trip.
Food for thought.
Good quote- excellent quoit, on your part. Could you share the authors’ name?
Could you share the authors name?
That quote has been circulating for some time. As far as I can tell, it’s by an unknown man who suffered under Communism. I’d like to find out more, including the author’s name, too.
Thanks.
