3 Benghazi survivors in diplomatic security, sources say, as GOP demands access

Three diplomatic security agents were among the Americans injured during the terrorist attack last September on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, sources tell Fox News, though it remains unclear how many total were injured in the assault.

Four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador, were killed in the attack, and the Obama administration faced intense criticism from Republicans in the aftermath over security problems and apparent inconsistencies in officials explanation of what happens. Lately, however, the focus has turned to the attack's survivors, who still have not been named.

Republican lawmakers this week stepped up their campaign to gain access to the survivors, with one claiming the Obama administration is engaging in a "cover-up" and another threatening to bring "legal charges."

Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., told Fox News on Tuesday that some of the survivors have been at a Washington-area military hospital since the attack, saying their injuries must be "serious."

Yet, he said, "we don't honor these people, we don't mention their names."

"It's like it's a dark hole, and I think we're now at a point -- now there is a cover-up," Wolf told Fox News, calling for a "select committee" to investigate Benghazi.

“So, not only is the President and the Secretary of State directly implicated in the affair, so is the current Director of the CIA.”

Which is, as you know, the reason they were selected for those positions, to guarantee their silence and make sure everyone else maintains that silence.

At first i thought this was a CIA detention operation, but now I’m going with the gun-running operation. 30+ people is just too many people for a facility that wasn’t even an embassy. (I haven’t been keeping up with this, so my theories are most likely old news; perhaps even outdated.)

Whatever it was, it was huge and warrants their extreme and ongoing cover-up measures, that’s for sure.

I am not a fan of foolish! And I would like the ones who came up with the foolish to be held to account.

I really wouldn’t doubt if it was the main base of operations for gunrunning into Syria and beyond. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was a planned October surprise ‘kidnapping’ gone bad, especially since BHO was behind in polls at that point.

We never knew the truth about whitewater, filegate, fostergate, chinagate, rapegate, blah-blah-blah, and this will probably end up the same.

***I see far too many young folks who think Hollywood is somehow real life. ****

So what is the difference between real life, a movie script (W/O Superheroes) and an Ayn Rand novel? Lot of people “Going Galt” now days.

...but now I’m going with the gun-running operation. 30+ people is just too many people for a facility that wasn’t even an embassy.

I've been inclined toward the gun-running explanation myself.

But stop and think about that. If the admninistration admitted to "providing arms to the Syrian rebels", how big a deal would that be? We were already giving them money -- and what would they spend it on but weapons? And if somebody objected to arming the Syrian rebels without Congressional approval, they could always seek refuge behind Ronald Reagan and Iran-Contra.

I'm starting to think there may well be something more than gun-running to the Syrian rebels (which, we're pretty sure, was going on with Turkey's connivance). What it might be, I've no idea -- but it's apparently scandalous. At this point, I believe you've got to think like John Brennan...and I'm not up to doing that.

One of the things that bothered me the most was that pre-planned apology on the state department website. I saw it myself, before Benghazi ever went down. That’s huge.

Yeah, those are good points abut the gunrunning theory. If that’s all it was, that would make the cover-up efforts be way out of proportion to the original crime. Makes no sense.

What about Brennan's secret war against AQ in Libya and Mali as motive for the attack?

What about Brennan shipping arms from Benghazi to Syria via Turkey?

It's a huge deal to the Russians.

"It's a huge deal to the Russians."

Russia would be POed, no doubt. But it was no secret we were already giving the rebels money to buy weapons with. The Russians didn't like that, either.

And I'm certain our gunrunning venture was well known to them, too. So, admitting it publicly might draw a "view with alarm" diplomatic communique -- but little else.

Point is, Russia's response would cut no ice politically in the U.S. And the administration appears seriously concerned about the affair's political consequences.

37 people just disappear off of the face of the earth!

US diplomats, Marine rescue team were also attacked at safe house, Libyans say Sept. 12, 2012

"Miscommunication that understated the number of American survivors awaiting rescue -- there were 37, nearly four times as many as the Libyan commander expected -- also meant survivors and rescuers found themselves short of transport to escape this second battle, delaying an eventual dawn break for the airport."

IIRC, Putin had called Syria, "a red line in the sand." They like that base on the Mediterranean and mean to keep it.

How about the UN?

After all, the left would howl if Zero was conducting a provably illegal war. /s

I agree with your points. This is not merely about gun-running - alas, who cares about that sort of illegality?

What it really must be, is mind boggling. One aspect is the fact that Petreus’ ditzy mistress let slip that prisoners were being held in the Benghazi ‘diplomatic compound.’

Not sure if what I say qualifies, but I once worked with a woman who claimed her Dad was CIA, involved with the bay of pigs and never heard from again. Does that count?

I am disgusted with the constant media lies and cover ups, this is just beyond words.

Gubmint hasn’t finished “de-programming” the survivors just yet. Give ‘em another month or so and the “zombies” they have reproduced will stager forth to say, “Nothing happened”. No surprises there.
