Great post. I fully agree with you-—especially about the tax exempt status. There is such a double standard. I frankly don’t see how to separate world views and political beliefs from beliefs about God. It all comes together at some point and any attempt at compartmentalizing is phoney and unnatural. The only people who want God out of politics and everyday life are those who do not want to submit to His authority over all things.
In fact, if you try that little trick, you are guilty of an additional sin called "presumption".
Church already thought of that one.
We Catholics should never be proud of our religion.
Remember that, but for God’s grace, we could have been atheists or worse.
Yeah, I'll wait and see, too. LOTS of past popes have said the same thing but it seems nobody has the courage or power to effect change at the local level. The Pope may make such a statement as "No Communion for Pro-Abortion Politicians" and even do so ex cathedra making it officially the truth of the RCC and infallibly so (according to the criteria) but will that mean EVERY bishop and every priest MUST follow it or else? Or else what? We hear all the time about people excommunicating themselves if they don't believe and follow everything they are told to from the Pope, but how many people actually follow through? Shouldn't prominent pro-abortion Catholic politicians be publicly called out on this? Because, until they are and the people see the bite, all it will remain is nothing but bark.
He bears some physical resemblance to Rudy Giuliani. Bet their families hail from the same part of Italia.
How many pro-abort politicians even GO TO CHURCH and receive the sacraments?
Recall that Nancy Pelosi proclaimed that the Pope was wrong on birth control.
Why limit to politicians? Anyone who approves of killing babies needs the wrath of God.
Somehow, I just don't see ANY modern Pope doing such an overt and potentially politically outrageous act as publicly snubbing the VP of the United States. If this one sincerely wants to start enacting such restrictions, he probably would have Biden alerted to it BEFORE he gets there so as not to publicly - in front of the entire world - embarrass him (not that he doesn't deserve it). That way, Biden gets the message and he avoids going to the communion rail. Though, it would be a GREAT teaching moment to all the other CINO politicians, it may not be the time or place to make it.
If Biden knew ahead of time that, if he presented himself to the Pope to receive communion he would be denied, he at least would not be able to blame the public humiliation on the Pope. Which is not to say he wouldn't anyway. It's a political hot potato either way. Previous Liberal Catholic politicians have been able to get papal audiences and Vatican entry pretty much anytime they wanted to and it doesn't seem to matter what they get told either. They STILL do what they want once they get back. It will be interesting to see if this new Pope is any different than the last few were in that regard.
I hope you were able to sit down and discuss this with that leader and he/she was open to hearing it. Our society is in the shape it is right now because too many people either don't care anymore or they are too afraid to take a stand. Such behavior is a death knell for ANY church. Sometimes they need shaking out to get rid of the clingers who come out of obligation instead of a desire to edify each other and worship together in truth. Maybe God put you there for just that reason!
Excellent point.
I’m very excited about the new Pope.
Everything you say is true.
You also know that for too long this look the other way has diluted the Catholic message.
I’ll believe it when I see it...
The Cardinals, Bishops and Parish Priests need to show some gumption and DO IT!
And they recite the Creed as if they follow it!
Hypocrites, ALL!
Loved Cardinal O’Connor...the Navy’s priest at one time.
A truly devoted Prince of the Church...
God continue to bless him.....
My MIL who coems and lives in MA calls herself Catholic , goes to church and yet votes Dem.
I asked her so many times and have many arguments with her about this.
Why do you vote Dem when you are supposed to be against homosexuality, abortion and yet marriage is for a 1 man and a 1 woman, etc.
She goes in a mood, rants as she walks away.
can;t be a Catholic on a Sunday and a Dem for the rest of the week.
I;ve seen at a Catholci church a car wiht obama stickers, pro choice, pro family pro Catholic\\\
The woman must be an idiot.
My RI in-laws same as yours!
All lib dims who consider themselves “Catholic”, especially at baptisms of babies and funerals.
Most of their kids are not practicing or don’t consider themselves “Catholic” anymore. At least they aren’t hypocrites.
The northeast of this country, as a whole, really is screwed up in SO many ways...
I totally agree, I have lived up there and my wife is from up, thankfully we move south to one of the most republcian counties in the state of FL and that is St Johns county where St Augustine is and where the first Christian prayer was ever said in N America.
Catholics up there have lost their way, not all but most and maybe the Pope need to go to NY, Boston, Chicago and mention marriage, abortion etc and that is what Catholics believe and they can;t vote for people which is against their faith.
Course I spoke to the MIL last might and she was telling me how the Boston media is again talking about the child molestation but not mentioning it were homosexuals who did that.
They are bringing up the problems instead of mentioning the good the church has done.
No doubt millions saw the new Pope and the media will go in attack mode
Church already thought of that one.
A self-policing sin, though. Why does one let sin monitor itself?
