A new billboard in Austin, Texas, is raising eyebrows and controversy (video below).
The billboard depicts people with clenched fists and flags raised over an image of the U.S.-Mexico border and a heart emblazoned with the Mexican flag logo.
The words on the billboard "Arriba Mi Gente" translate to "Up My People" or "My People Arrive."
The Austin Visual Arts Association and Reagan Outdoor Advertising put up 10 pieces of art on billboards on major highways across Austin.
According to BigPicture.net, Arriba Mi Gente was selected from more than 100 entries.
This has been an exciting opportunity to bring together the extraordinary artistic talent across our community and put it on display for all of Austin to see and enjoy, says Billy Reagan, president of Reagan Outdoor Advertising.
The artist of the billboard Nancy Guevara said the billboard is about the "border and border culture ... I want to inform people and empower people about the culture ... I want Mexican-Americans to know that it is okay to speak Spanish ... we need to be proud of our roots and fight for our rights here."
Austin sucks. It is a liberal shithole. Just say’n
What armchair onanism is this? Austin's not on the border. Unless you count the border with fantasy.
No, lady—if you want to speak your language and practice your culture, stay the hell at home!
Translation: FU gringo. Thanks for making USA the greatest country in the world but we are going to take your s417.
I was in Fredicksberg, Tx (Hill country, NW of San Antonio), I was talking to the owner of a restaurant/Wine bar, she and her husband (both Obama supporter’s) moved out of Austin after 12 years because the city became way too liberal even for them.
I almost fell asleep watching that video. The ‘artist’ sounds like a pot head.
how much did it cost the taxpayers?
Have an image of people holding up grocery bags, “Arise and revolt”
Borders? We don’t need no stinkin’ borders!
What is she talking about, what rights are the Mexican people here in this country being deprived of? If one is here illegally, then one really has no rights nor privileges that one can say is legitimate other than the right to live but not at someone else's expense. So what's this rise up crap? Against who???
Excellent!!!
Obviously you are too yellow to "fight" for your "rights" in Mexico where your government would kick your asses for trying to pull this crap down there.
Where is today’s Captain McNelly?
Have you ever watched WWII movies on a Mexican TV station with Mexicans as the allies? I have.
Spent some quiet nights in a hotel in Presideo TX. Had business there. It was a hoot.
Of course they contributed 0 to the war effort of the allies much less had combatants there. (There may have been a few individuals along the border of Texas who pulled it off, but nothing connected to their government.)
Now, understand there have always been Tejanos and Gringos in Texas and lots of Tejanos and Mexicans (self identified) served in the US Military.
It really is San Fransicko Southwest.
Sound like a good time for paintball practice.
Austin = San Francisco, TX or Hanoi in the Hill Country
