As an Eagle Scout my opinion is: If the organization has to ask, it has already lost its way. There must be core values that cannot be compromised. If compromising the core values is even under consideration, the organization is dead.
Same here, class of 19xx. We won Dale vs. BSA in 2000, so there is no legal reason to forfeit the member’s right to associate with whom they please, as indicated by entry requirements.
The BSA is a private organization with a 100-year old heritage. The BSA doesn’t have to be a government-mandated social experiment (like the US military has become).
Anyone on the national council who votes for this is putting money ahead of integrity and the protection of children.
