As an investigator that has investigated much political corruption I despise dishonest government officials that make false statements to support their fellow cronies. It wont take long to run down some witnesses at the town hall meeting to determine what really happened. “Official Opression” is a pretty serious offense that is generally just one of many filed after the spotlight is put upon the city council members and police officers. If they lied it will come out in witness interviews most of the time.
Filing a false police report is a crime in most jurisdictions. Most council meetings I have been to are recorded. Make them provide evidence: subpoena it. Then press charges. Oh, and sue for false arrest.
