President Obamas congressional charm offensive is set to continue next week when he is joined by his former rival, Rep. Paul Ryan, for a private lunch at the White House.
Obama invited Mitt Romneys former running mate to be his lunch date as part of a renewed effort to break a stalemate on budget negotiations by reaching out to rank-and-file GOP members.
Ryan, who wrote the House Republican budget, is working on a plan he claims will eliminate the debt without raising taxes. Obama has insisted that any budget deal include a tax hike on upper-income Americans.

Looks like Obama is desperate for a budget deal before Moochelle and her offspring depart for their Spring Break vacay in 2 weeks.

Just once I'd like to see one of these republicans being schmoozed to come out and tell us exactly what went on. I am sure they take an oath of confidentiality going in, but so what--Obama took an oath to protect the constitution, too, and look how much that means.

In retrospect, I first tought Ryan held his own in the “debate” with Biden, but now we know he failed as badly in that enbeavor as his mentor, Kemp, did with Kemp’s “friend Al Gore”.

I'd say "wear a wire", but the Secret Service would probably detect that pretty easily.

I wonder if he will buy off the Republican senators using the tax payers money like he did with the democrats during Obamacare? The only problem is he probably used most of his stimulus bankroll on the election.
To: jimbo123
No.
He is not looking for a deal.
He is going to use these meetings to show the voters that he is a great fellow willing to work with the repubs and that any lack of progress is all the fault of the conservatives.
I think those who meet with him are just giving him the rope he needs to hang them.
Once upon a time, I knew a really tough guy. On occasions when he was invited to similar meetings his answer was:
“I refuse to carry the rope to my own hanging.”
His way of saying “Screw you and your meetings.”
Ryan is carrying his rope.

I’d bring half a turd sandwich and tell him I gave the other half to Juan McCain

You are correct, this is a stunt.
Bonehead yesterday said he wants all future discussions on the record and in the open. The liar in chief cannot have it that way. Ryan is a prop just like those jerks were who met with the LIC last night. There is not going to be any discussion here, frankly, it is probably just as well there is none. This is not Daniel going into the lions den it is Daniel going into the liar’s den.

This is all PR because the public is starting to notice that Obama doesn't want a deal, and even the mainstream media has pointed out that his only goal is to win back the House in 2014. So he makes some meaningless gestures that are designed to make him look good to the sheeple.
The Republicans can't refuse to go without looking bad but they need to remember why he is doing this and that he is thoroughly dishonest--not to believe anything he says.
