Flag Flap in Houston (CITGO lowers United States, Texas and Venezuelan flags)

If you drove by CITGO’s corporate headquarters yesterday you would have seen what many consider a disturbing sight.

Many Houstonians are up in arms after driving by CITGO's Eldridge Parkway headquarters and noticing the U.S., Texas and Venezuelan flags being flown at half staff, and you let your feeling show on Matt Patrick's afternoon show.

“I gave them a call, and the operator told me that it was in observance and respect of the death of Hugo Chavez,” Teddy told Matt Patrick on his afternoon show on The 9-5-0 yesterday.

Teddy wasn’t satisfied with the company’s explanation.

“I told the person that answered the phone that if she had a problem with raising the flag back up that I could come down and do it for her,” he said.

And it wasn't just at the corporate headquarters. Flags were at half staff at a refinery in Corpus Christi as well.

A caller named ‘Doc’ told Patrick, “I called their facilities manager and led a march of about 800 patriots from one of my Facebook pages.”

Doc also said he would head down to the corporate headquarters and take matters into his own hands if necessary.

“I’m ready to go down there. Eldridge isn’t far from my house. I’ll either remove the flag or I will put it at full mast,” he stated.

CITGO, a Venezuelan owned company, released a statement explaining why the flags were lowered, confirming it was to honor Chavez, who died on Tuesday from cancer.

The flag may only be lowered for the death of foreign dignitaries if indicated in Presidential instructions.

Re: “ ‘CITGO = Valero’

“That’s not true. Valero bought some Citgo properties a while back and rebranded them to their own name, but they are by no means the same company.”

That’s good to know. I had ignored Valero for some unknown reason. I probably heard the “Citco became Valero” rumor.

I’ll trade with Valero now.

Exactly, eff citgo.

The only Citgo station in my town changed to Valero a number of years ago. The gas station that helped put me through college was a Gulf station and now a Phillips 66.

That's a good thing... Valero is an American-owned company.

The Valero Energy Corporation is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.

Although we have two stupid Citgo stations located within 3-4 miles of our house, we drive out of our way to pump gas at a Valero station further away.

The Friendly Mart on the corner of Hall Rd. and Beamer Rd. sells Hugo’s gas...

The store is run by middle-eastern types that I have profiled as too stupid to be a real threat to our nieghborhood...

I don’t buy the gaas, but Ido run in there from time to time to buy overpriced emergency beer supplies, and watch the losers play those video slot machines...

Unfortunately I do feel like my IQ does dip whenever I do go in there...But I recover in time to kill braincells in another way...;-)

Must be really warm where Hugo is right now...Too bad you can’t get a cool beverage where he’s at...What a shame.../sarc

Maybe it was Petro Express that is Citgo

It is not true that Petro Express is owned by Hugo Chavez or Venezuela. Petro Express was an American-owned company that had been headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company was purchased in 2007 by Pantry Inc., the Kangaroo convenience store chain with headquarters in Sanford, North Carolina.

Will you please stop using Free Republic to spread false rumors about good American companies?

Keyword in my comment was "Maybe" and not a statement of certainty which would only be considered to be factual or rumor spreading by those with shallow minds. Why don't you deepen yours by starting with the definition of the word "maybe".

You accuse a good Texan company of hiding they are owned by a Marxist, then cast doubts on another of good US company of being the same and accuse me of having a shallow mind?

LOL!

Have a good night FRiend.

I never even heard of those companies before reading the comments in this thread.

Sadly they're all probably going to be Marxist owned before 2016. It's Obama's goal. He says there's "no silver bullet" to make gas prices go down so that "the big oil companies do not make such huge profits on the backs of the American people" (I hope you see the quotation marks).

We are following the Venezuelan people down the same road. They were much better off before Chavez, they were closer to living their own American dream before Chavez, look where they are now. But we lived the American Dream, we were the envy of the world yet we chose to go down the same road as the Venezuelans. What's that make us?

We're becoming the village idiot of the world, not only for voting for him once but twice and if the GOP can't beat that then they are even more idiotic.

I have not bought Citgo gas since Chavez became president. I wonder what we'll buy when Obama signs the EO for the big takeover here?

And we know there IS more than one silver bullet because Bush used one when all he did was speak and lift the regulations and gas prices went from more than $4 a gal to $1.82 in just a few months and that’s about where it was when Obama took over.
