'British rock guitarist Alvin Lee, a member of the band Ten Years After, has died aged 68.
His family announced on his official website that he unexpectedly died on 6 March following complications during routine surgery.
The Nottingham-born musician rose to fame after appearing at the Woodstock festival in 1969.
The band, who had eight Top 40 albums in the UK, had their biggest hit in 1971 with I'd Love To Change the World.
"We have lost a wonderful and much loved father and companion, the world has lost a truly great and gifted musician," said the statement from his wife and daughters.'

I was in the Army at Fort Gordon when that song came out. It was the first time that I heard the words "dykes and fairies" used in popular music.

I saw Alvin in Germany when I was stationed there in the mid 70’s. He’s one of my guitar heroes. I’m truly saddened by this.

What a shame! He was a huge influence on me 30 years ago when I was a young teen first picking up the instrument. He was a master. One of the first "shredders" and should have been every bit the household name that Page, Clapton, Hendrix and Van Halen would become. RIP Mr. Lee.

Same here. TYA was touring with Spooky Tooth and Humble Pie. Rockingest show I ever saw. Alvin Lee jumped off the stage, grabbed the joint out of my best buddie’s hand shouting “Gimme that f’n joint”, jumped back on stage and kept jamming. They weren’t wireless then. That was a really long cord.

That’s such a shame. First saw this from a Kevin Shirley (producer, Iron Maiden) post on Facebook. Terrible to lose such a force in guitar playing.
I bet he and Stevie Ray Vaughan are already rocking out.
