With Reid controlling the Senate and Obama the WH, Republican control over spending is in name only. Think about it. We are governing by crisis and by continuing resolutions. There is no agreement between House, Senate and WH which is what it would take to control spending WITHOUT A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.
CRs have to be agreed on by all three. These are passed because there is no budget that all three can agree on. At every turn, Dems refuse to cut or reform and insist on tax hikes. There can only be “compromise” CRs - that is, votes to keep the government wheels turning as things are to avoid a shutdown.
So when you say you don’t understand why spending isn’t under control of the House Republicans, you are saying you either don’t know that if they held out for their version of, say, the Ryan budget which is DOA with Reid, the government would shut down, or you know it would shut down, but you don’t get why the Repubs don’t simply LET it shut down.
Think about the shut down angle, because THAT’s your alternative scenario to spending continuing to go up.
That would be fine with you, I’m guessing, but think about it in reality terms in this whole struggle. It’s an option. But think about it. Don’t fail to include its repercussions in your musings...
Last thing: remember that entitlements are just that, ENTITLEMENTS. That part of the budget is eating us alive and reforms must be made but the Dems refuse reforms. Now add on top of that, Obamacare. Also the interest on the debt must be paid. Must.be.paid.
Not a pretty picture.
Probably.
OK then, how about a new (downsized) CR every week, instead of every day.
It would be impossible for the press and the apathetic American public to ignore, AND...it could be used to put the heat on the Senate, highlight the FACT that they violated the Constitution by not passing a budget, and force them to act responsibly or be replaced.
