I don't believe that either, but I do believe the press is feeling a credibility squeeze. They have no problem with repeating The Won's lies, but they also know that even low-information voters will start to scoff and laugh at them when the lies move from the sublime to the ridiculous. I'm sure the collective thinking of the presstitutes is "How stupid do you believe my readers think I am?"
The press will never "wake up" because they've been awake since the beginning. They've been willing accomplices. But The Won is starting to punish them for it, and that just might break the spell for some of them.
