A toy bb gun was discovered by an employee of Sara's Preschool near school grounds Tuesday morning, according to Ridgewood police.
At roughly 8 a.m., a preschool employee found the bb gun in the woods by the Prospect Street facility. He alertly confiscated the toy gun and stored it for safe keeping until an officer arrived and removed it, according to police.
The bb gun was not loaded and police have not identified its owner, according to Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward.
"There was no evidence of criminal activity," Ward said. "No other weapons were located."
Detectives are investigating the discovery.
Actually found an unopened bottle of Lord Calvert in the woods( in a bush) when I was 14.Never told Dad.
In the area we lived in near Austin, a kid with a plastic bow and arrow set had better not set foot outside where the PD could see him/her trying it out the day after Christmas.
we had an incident where the principal of a nearby high school founda gun, picked it up,brought it to her office and called the police. in so doing she ruined the fingerprints of the criminal who had jst used it to rob a bank, ruining the case against the suspect.
you NEVER touch a gun that you find lying around. it could be loaded, and have a hair trigger.
Wow!
This town needs to get some big-time Obamabucks for the sixteen detectives that will need to be deployed for at least a year, preparing their thousand page report on the finding of a BB gun, doing ballistic tests, fingerprints, site vigilance, crime scene tape, and of course flying AF1 for a TOTUS photo-op at the daycare center.
Why?
I had one when I was a kid however my dad wasn't a pussy and taught me to handle guns responsibly and to not be a pussy.
Same here. I learned gun safety and how to shoot when I was 8 by taking a course offered by the JayCees. After the course they had a drawing and gave away 2 Daisy BB guns. I was one of the winners which was great since my parents had steadfastly refused to buy me a BB gun. Since I had the gun they bought me a cool target to shoot at with moving ducks and flying birds and everything!
Are you eight or nine?
Well?
Which one was it?
Was it a pump model or CO2?
This lack of BB gun knowledge casts quite the shadow on your story.
Yeah, the Mob has been committing murders for years with BB guns.
you NEVER touch a gun that you find lying around. it could be loaded, and have a hair trigger.
Sounds like good advice for YOU. Maybe if you are really lucky an adult will teach you about guns.
***in so doing she ruined the fingerprints of the criminal who had just used it to rob a bank, ruining the case against the suspect.***
Obviously she never paid attention to DICK TRACY’S Crimestoppers, in the Sunday paper.
You take a shoe lace and pass it through the trigger guard, then take it to the cop.
When some people found the six shot revolver, used in the Tate/La Bianca murders (Charles Manson), they carefully turned it over to a cop without touching the firearm.
The cop then wallowed the firearm in his hands ruining all fingerprints.
Good point. His was definetely a pump pistol. I thought they had CO2 cartridges as well. Mine was a spring powered Daisy. Not much power. I could put a BB into an aluminum can if it had water or sand in it. Otherwise it would just dent the can.
Oh man, what a memory rush! That was good fun back in the days...
Snap tight plastic models made good targets to0. We'd get and build cheap models for the sole purpose of destruction by any one of several means. Fire Crackers, BB guns, lighter fluid, matches, etc.
The most common element in the universe—by a hefty margin—is stupidity.
I remember when you could go into two sporting goods stores in Ridgewood and buy ammo, or rifles and shotguns. Sadly, that’s a thing of the past. Since the cityfolk started to move in 25 or so years ago, they brought all of their liberal baggage with them, so the town started to decline. It’s now a bastion of Suburban driving soccer moms, that hate anything that has to do with firearms, and would somehow rather their kids learn about guns from rappers and the media. Heaven forbid, that they had the NRA Eddie Eagle program in the schools to teach kids how to handle a situation like this if THEY found the firearm in the woods. Nah, instead they waste taxpayer money, and employ the usage of SWAT teams so everyone “feels” safe. Makes perfect sense.
ok Eaker... YOU pick up a discarded gun - assuming that you know at a glance whether it’s a bb gun, or a lookalike. you get YOUR prints on it, adn then see what the cops tell you.
