Why Asian-Americans Have Turned Their Backs on the Republican Party
Daily Beast ^ | Feb 26, 2013 | Lloyd Green

Posted on 02/27/2013 5:16:17 AM PST by yinandyang

Since 2000, Asian-Americans have consistently voted Democratic. In 2008, Asian-Americans gave 62 percent of their vote to Barack Obama. Last November that number jumped to 73 percent even as the president’s margin of victory in the popular vote was cut in half as he garnered a Dukakis-like 41 percent of white voters and slid by more than 13 points among Jewish-Americans.

When Republicans again become supporters of fundamental liberty, people will come back. Trouble is, they don't believe in it, it's obvious to the voters they don't believe in it, and they aren't as good at pretending they believe in it as the Democrats are.

Both parties depend on promises to burn heretics to keep their bases in line. Democrats get away with it because their "heretics" are nominally the powerful in society. To Asian immigrants, who primarily come from dictatorships - however benevolent - the Democrats thus seem (absurdly) the party more likely to leave them in peace.

Article was boring. It didn’t answer the question in the headline.

“These days, the GOP strikes Asian-Americans, along with many other Americans, as hostile to science and modernity.”

This is in huge type in the middle of the article. It’s not backed up and I find it unconvincing, to put it mildly.

That's most certainly NOT the reason.

Sadly, it's precisely the opposite. Minorities do not tend to believe in limited government. A generation ago, a majority of Asians supported the GOP because of their anti-communism stand. Now that the cold war is over, even Asians feel free to join nearly every other minority group and vote for ever bigger government. These people are simply not educated and steeped in the ideas of limited government. If you really believe just being more conservative is enough to win these groups you're nuts.

Why have American Americans turned their back on the GOP?

Why did Reagan win by landslides, and why has the GOP spent the past 20+ years purging Reaganism from the party.

Like most articles that pretend to analyze why Dims receive more support from specific minorities than Republicans, this one also leaves out what I think is the most important reason: How long individual immigrants and families have been in the US.

These ‘studies’ or polls never tell us how new citizens are voting, and how minority voters from multi-generation, citizen families are voting. I think we’d see some real differences in the voting choices of well established and recent arrival minority voters of all ethnicities.

Of course, I doubt most news agencies want to report that the Dims are winning big among new citizens. And for Asian-Americans, the fact that so many live in uber-liberal California and NY is probably also a factor, even among more established Asian-Americans.

I believe how long specific minority voters’ families have been in the US, and how established they are financially,
is the most important determining factor in how they vote.

The GOP is hostile to JUNK science. Obviously THE ASIANS ARE IGNORANT of the fact that the RATs (who truly are hostile to science) control America's "education" system.

Americans of Japanese extraction, of all people, should be called on this stupidity.

And also, the number of legal immigrants has increased from a few hundred thousand to more than a million annually in past 25 or so years, not to mention illegal aliens who eventually became citizens.

We are importing Dim voters and the Dims well know it while the Repbublican elite are in long term denial. Republicans had won the national political debate in the ‘80s, but the importation of Dim voters has changed that, particularly since a large increase in legal immigration under GHWB.

It's politics by fantasy.

So it’s because Asians are atheists?

Not atheists, necessarily, but other than some Koreans not particularly religious, often not Christian, and certainly not evangelical Christians.

Minorities do not tend to believe in limited government.

With exceptions that prove the rule, you are right.

As long as the democrats & media can continually highlight race and ethinicity, minorities will feel embattled and look to government to empower them.

Its as simple as that. I don't know how the GOP can overcome this media-reinforced ignorance.

All this means is Asian-Americans are as susceptible to Dem lies as any other ethnic group. The libs have succeeded in portraying conservative Republicans as anti-science/anti-technology troglodytes. The Dems are the party of congressman Hank Johnson who thinks too many people will tip over a Pacific island. And Sheila Jackson Lee who thought astronauts landed on Mars. Now who is the stupid party?

Information from this article and a Google tells me that Reagan, GHWB and Dole all won the Asian-American vote. So, whatever is happening has happened since the ‘80s. I believe it’s the additional of millions of new immigrant Asian-American voters that has moved things from modest Republican wins among AAs to 75% to 25% losses.

Why don’t we see studies that tell us how new citizen minorities vote as opposed to those whose families have been in the US for several generations?

So, because ‘Pubbies are less that complete “supporters of fundamental liberty” they go and vote for smiley-face Fascists? Go ahead, pull the other one.

Truth is, we have hit the tipping point. More and more folks are going to be voting for “security,” “free stuff” and racial spoils. The nation as a whole is basically back where were during the 1930s when Democrats took over promised to rob the “evil rich” and spend it on the “poor” and ran the country until the late 50s.
