Indeed...coming from a black state and being old enough to have been there...and worked with them as a boy ..yes indeed blacks did used to work more
But it was never perfect and their cultural barometers were problematic even then...illegitimaacy, crime, and yes even unemployment
The mimimum wage was an FDR invention for the Great Depression....an income distribution scheme to start with
it was not an invention to protect whites from blacks taking their jobs
what about the issue of black culture in Africa where there is no govt handout system to speak of or where whites have never gotten the chance to corrupt thee,?
whose fault is that?
no doubt a dependence society like ours has hurt them but that is not the whole issue and smacks yet again of white paternalism as though the poor blacks live and die at the whim of either white action or govt action
I would like to think they have the free will i have and you have to resist handouts...if they exercise it
out of wedlock births and serial illegitimacy has always been the biggest issue for black culture here and worldwide
that more anything is what hurts any progress they make as a group and contributes to their reputation and violence and crime prone more than average statistically
illegitimacy rates for blacks prior to 1960s was still over 20% while the white rate was 1-2%
all that Civil Rights stuff folks here applaud which had handouts right on it's heels has made an existing problem worse...ending that will improve but not cure the underlying problems....
the cure is in the hands of black people individually as it always has been and if folks truly believe they are equals how can anyone deny them that?
this constant harping they are victims of the government relieves them of personal responsibility
Yes, but today the black illegitacy rate is greater than 50% and the white illegitacy rate is about 25%. Nothing remains stationary over long periods of time.
Government can “bend the curve”. Right now it is bending in the absolute wrong direction. The casual assumption that blacks are lazy and cannot hustle and work hard is unfair in my opinion. Blacks have been conditioned to believe the system is rigged against them, and lots of “well intentioned” (or otherwise) white people encourage them to believe that, and that is a terribly self-defeating outlook.
If the Klu Klux Klan had tried to devise a system to destroy progress for American blacks, they could not have come up with anything as diabolical and insidious as the Great Society.
