You've surely heard by now that Michelle Obama presented the Academy Award for Best Picture last evening.
On Monday, MSNBC host Alex Wagner, appearing on Hardball, said, "Could Laura Bush have done it? No. If she'd appeared at the Oscars, I don't think she would have been greeted with the same amount of warmth" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Let me ask you about the Obamas. This is the second time politicians have gotten into these awards. Bill Clinton was involved with the Golden Globes. I think it's the bicoastal America. I mean, if you look at a map of this country after a presidential election, it's pretty clear the way it works. You got New York and the New England states and the Northeastern states and then somewhere around Michigan it stops, you know? Or Illinois. And then you have this vast amount of flyover country if you will, and then there's L.A., and then there's San Francisco. And here it seems to me another one of the marriages of the bicoastal, the Left Coast against the East Coast. Republicans don't do this.
ALEX WAGNER: Yeah, but Chris, there are two things to say. One, could Laura Bush have done it? No. If she'd appeared at the Oscars, I don't think she would have been greeted with the same amount of warmth.
First off, I'm not going argue that Wagner is wrong.
The reality is that Laura Bush was quite beloved by much of this country enjoying far higher favorability ratings than her husband.
However, what does it say about Hollywood and the entertainment industry that despite how most of the country felt about Mrs. Bush, Wagner's probably right?
Are those involved in movies so hateful of folks on the other side of the aisle that they can't for one evening put ideology aside?
If the answer is "No," how could any of these folks ever be trusted to convey an honest, unbiased message whatever the subject matter?
Who are the people in the Cap’n Crunch uniforms behind her?
For the most part the movie industry isn’t worth supporting and the awards shows are liberal circle jerks.
For liberals Ideology is everything. To them, truth is only truth if it agrees with their ideology.
Their ideology is there god, and there ideology is secular humanism, and their god is themselves.

What kind of stupid, offensive comment is that? We didn’t appreciate a Clinton Administration official[s making fun of military uniforms; FReepers mocking them is no less offensive.
They are worn when civilians would wear tuxedos.

All I can say is that if Hollywood relied on me for income, most of them would be living in some trailer court in Riverside County.
If I saw matt damon holding up one of those signs at the foot of a freeway off-ramp I STILL wouldn’t give him anything ;-)
Laura Bush would recognize that Hollywood awards have nothing to do with Government.

I quit watching the Academy Awards when Michael Moore got “Best Documentary”.
At that point, I knew the fix was in, and the Academy no longer judged film making on artistic factors. Politics became everything.
So I was spared Moochelle’s bangs. Big f’n loss for me, eh?

Hey, Moo lost her law license for insurance fraud several years ago so she is going to need a new career path. In four more years, Moo is going to be out on the street and needing a high paying job to pay for all those vacations and clothes. The Oscars thing might be an in for a token job with CNN or MSNBC to pimp the Hollywood set. And she could get lots of free eats at those pimping get togethers and parties they have.

Full disclosure - the females around here did give the dress a thumbs up. . . for once.
But that’s not how the low information voter perceives it.
This is just another PR ploy by the PR-driven party to promote their “We are the good guys” message.

Laura Bush is a lady of class and dignity, and would never have been so tacky as to appear on the Oscars.....
