WASHINGTON After more than a century, the Census Bureau is dropping its use of the word "Negro" to describe black Americans in surveys.
Instead of the term that came into use during the Jim Crow era of racial segregation, census forms will use the more modern labels "black" or "African-American".
The change will take effect next year when the Census Bureau distributes its annual American Community Survey to more than 3.5 million U.S. households, Nicholas Jones, chief of the bureau's racial statistics branch, said in an interview.

**what the heck do you call a black that isnt American?**
Well, a few years back a MSM news caster called a visiting black dignitary from AFRICA an African American.
Look at the text of the Constitution: "Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three-fifths of all other persons." (Article I, Sec. 2)
whoo-hoo. African-American designation now lets former Afrikaners claim minority status.
idiots.
Black is ridiculous, as they are no more black than I am white.
Pathetic that were still counting along racial lines.
Exactly many “blacks” are no blacker than they are white..
Like... you know... OBAMA.. and many many others..
We have family friends where the wife is obviously mostly black, but her husband is as white, freckled and green-eyed as I am, but identifies himself as black. That has always mystified me. Maybe his gr-gr-grandmother was black, but WHY should he be called black if he is mostly white?
I also had a friend who was mostly black but his family was a rainbow of colors due to intermarriages. You would not believe his sisters and brothers were his siblings! Get down into the next generation and it was mind-boggling, and yet, they were all considered black. This whole racial thing just drives me nuts!
Lies, lies and more damned lies.
Negro has been used because it's ACTUALLY one of the 5 races - Mongoloid, Caucasoid, Australoid, Negroid and Capoid.
Africa is either a continent or a nationality, but it is not a 'race', just like *black* or *white* are not 'races'...they're designations of colors.
Good point. It is idiotic and fits in nicely with the dumbing down of humans. Everyone is equal except select minorities who need special rights and favors all throughout their lives in order to be equal
This whole racial thing just drives me nuts!
If you’re light complected but call yourself black..
YOU ARE RACE BAITING.. probably, most likely a racist..
The black experience has nothing to be proud of.. NOTHING..
No black man or woman has accomplished positive anything just for being black..
Mandela is communist hack.. the father of the sewer in South Africa..
The only worthy black people have assumed western European customs..
Black American culture is poisonous... TOXIC...
Degrading literally everything it touches..
Should NOT BE SO.... but it is...
I don’t remember that, but maybe there are a few micks, wops, dagoes, wasps, and spicks around here that do.
Sorry, I forgot to include all you kikes, and nips out there. I will ask my squaw if she can think of any others I unintentionally left out.
I guess you didn’t see my post (55). At the time it wasn’t used as a racial slur. I apologize that I gave the impression that I approve of insulting ethnic groups other than mine. My point was merely a comment about the fact that the correct (PC) references changed quite. Please, lighten-up.
I’m not upset Jay, but I do thank you for the clarification. In all honesty, I knew I had could have done a better job of making clear the reason for my original post immediately after I sent it, and knowing how sensitive people can be about this stuff I half expected to get called on it. Again, thanks big time for your reply. It took a load off. Take care.
