[Full title] ‘By All Means, Leave’: The Amazingly Blunt Response One State Rep. Gave a Citizen Who Wrote Him Opposing Concealed Carry in Schools

That was one Wyoming state representative’s message to a resident who contacted him recently stating her opposition to a bill that would have allowed people with concealed carry permits to carry guns in public schools, colleges and sporting events.
Rev. Audette Fulbright had emailed all state legislators, including Republican Rep. Hans Hunt, earlier this month to say she and her husband had just moved to Wyoming and were “seriously reconsidering” their decision amid the proposed expansion of gun laws.
“Ample evidence has shown that schools and guns do not mix, and in particular, guns in the hands of amateurs/non-professionals is extremely dangerous, especially in any highly-charged situation,” Fulbright wrote. “To expose our children to greater risk in their schools by encouraging more guns on campuses is something that we cannot allow.”
Fulbright also said she was concerned about “the profoundly serious dangers of fracking” and said the question of whether to leave was “wrenching to all of us.”
“I know of other new-to-Wyoming families in similar contemplation. Your choices matter. It would be sad to see an exodus of educated, childrearing age adults from Wyoming as a result of poor lawmaking,” she wrote.
Hunt’s response? “By all means, leave.”
“I’ll be blunt,” he wrote back. “If you don’t like the political atmosphere of Wyoming, then by all means, leave. We, who have been here a very long time (I am proudly 4th generation) are quite proud of our independent heritage.”
Fulbright is not one of Hunt’s constituents, but he was one of just two lawmakers who responded to her letter. The other, state Rep. Mary Throne (D), said the bill had moved to committee and to contact committee members. It has since been shot down by legislators.
Fulbright told the Casper Star-Tribune her family moved from Virginia in July to have access to better schools and a beautiful environment.
“Apparently I have to live here a certain amount of time before I have an opinion,” she told the newspaper.
Hunt, who was the youngest member of the Wyoming legislature when he was elected in 2010 didn’t back down from his response.
“Was it blunt? Yes. Would I apologize? No,” Hunt told the Star-Tribune. He said later: “If I had to do it again, would I sit and think about how to phrase my words more carefully? Probably.”

I hope you are taking care of yourself during this busy session. I know it is a challenging, compressed time.
I am writing to express my grave concern about House Bill 105. Ample evidence has shown that schools and guns do not mix, and in particular, guns in the hands of amateurs/non-professionals is extremely dangerous, especially in any highly-charged situation. to expose our children to greater risk in their schools by encouraging more guns on campuses is something that we cannot allow.
My husband and I moved to Wyoming not too long ago. We believed it was a good place to raise children. With the recent and reactive expansion of gun laws and the profoundly serious dangers of fracking, we find we are seriously reconsidering our decision, which is wrenching to all of us. However, the safety of our family must come first. We are waiting to see what the legislature does this session. I know of other new-to-Wyoming families in similar contemplation. Your choices matter. It would be sad to see an exodus of educated, childrearing age adults from Wyoming as a result of poor lawmaking.

I’ll be blunt. If you don’t like the political atmosphere of Wyoming, then by all means, leave. We, who have been here a very long time (I am proudly 4th generation) are quite proud of our independent heritage. I don’t expect a “mass exodus” from our state just because we’re standing up for our rights. As to your comments on fracking, I would point out that you’re basing your statement on “dangers” that have not been scientifically founded or proved as of yet.
It offends me to no end when liberal out-of-staters such as yourself move into Wyoming, trying to get away from where they came from, and then pompously demand that Wyoming conform to their way of thinking. We are, and will continue to be, a state which stands a head above the rest in terms of economic security. Our ability to do that is, in large part, to our “live and let live” mentality when it comes to allowing economic development, and limiting government oversight. So, to conclude, if you’re so worried about what our legislature is working on, then go back home.

It happens all the time. The lib moves from his crime-infested, over-taxed state to another state where things are better. However, this liberal takes his voting habits and big government desires to the new state. In this way, a number of states have been “Californicated” or “New Yawkerized”. Good examples are Colorado and Florida, respectively. I can talk about New York because I am from there and have been fighting with liberals all my life. When, I enlisted in the military, I left NY for good. I am the exception to the rule, I was someone who should been born elsewhere and just moved where I felt most at home.
You might want to look into the Rev. Fulbright and her life/interests/ministry before deciding she’s just a regular ole housewife/mom like million of others. Google is your friend.

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been disappointed taking golf trips along the southeastern seaboard expecting to meet locals and their honey dipped accents and encountering one refugee Yankee staffer after another. Typical profile: they think they know it all...every joke they tell is supposed to be hilarious etc.
On occasions when they are asked why they’ve migrated south, the reasons are invariably cost of living/taxes/crime/property. Statistically a significant percentage of them must have been the ones voting liberals into power for decades yet apparently they don’t see the irony. The RI island guys are especially odious. Is there something about a small state that produces obnoxiousness?
Wyoming is probably no worse than most other places. My bad luck to be where I was when I was with out-of-state plates.
I had followed a little red car for miles on a two-lane windy road about 10 miles under the speed limit. When we hit a long straightaway, I sped up and passed. Wa-a-a-a-ay down the road in front of me was a line of about 6 cars. I was back in my lane well before we passed each other. The front car was a State Policeman. He turned, followed and stopped me, to the tune of $78.
In just over 50 years of driving, I have had four tickets. Two of them I deserved, two of them I didn’t. This is one of them that I didn’t deserve.
Because of the incongruity, in this case, of getting a letter from the “Justice Court” I have kept the paperwork hanging on my wall for a lot longer than I should have (13 years).

I did something quite similar right here in my home town - passed a slowpoke, really dragging his heels and holding up traffic, albeit in a no passing zone.
I neglected, however, to look in the rear view mirror before I did so.
Had I been more observant, I would have noted the police cruiser directly behind me.

The libs are adopting “muslim” tactics. Move in, take over, demand “their” way, or else.
Sick of libs and their irrational expectations, just sick of them. And, I have the misfortune to live in a lib state, just so I can be close to my grandchildren.
It does hurt, however, to see them get brainwashed by a liberal state and school system.

Not all yankees transplants are bad. :-D There are sizable minorities in the north and south who should switch places with each other. The same goes for California and even in Texas. For example. there are a lot of recent arrival Californians in my Texas neighborhood. Luckily for us, most of these new arrivals are conservatives who gave up on their failed state or origin. Some states, such as North Carolina, are not so lucky in that it seems to be getting a lot more die-hard liberals than we are.

This is just like my rural community in East Tennessee. Persons from the city move into the neighborhood {boonies} and gripe about cattle, horses, gun shots, unmowed grass, gravel roads, flooding, mobile homes, you name it. The first thing they want to do is make the place the hell hole they left. This includes building subdivisions with politically connected home owners associations. Their first demand is higher taxes to pay for their services wants.
Nothing better than if needed or wanted in having your FREE meal just steps away from the house. Load the rifle and go out on the porch and wait. No one cares :>}
Oh I did notice a new neighbor yesterday. His name I think is Barack. I haven't got to meet him yet. I did hear him several times yesterday though and he seemed to be yelling toward the east. His words were "Hee Haw Hee Haw Hee Haw". He's living on my neighbors land as of a few days ago.
I'm still trying to get over the loss of my goats, Harry, Nancy, Barbara, Diane, and Crying John. They just weren't productive to the farm in any way. Even the ample browsing oppertunities offered were protested by them. I couldn't get them to leave the comfort of the shed. They insisted on only having the best hay and grain I could no longer afford. I gave them to some local village {city} idiots. The city fellers said said gracias amigo. It was cheaper than keeping them.

I dunno. Seems reasonable, actually. If you're a "Progressive", and you move somewhere else to escape the disaster that your ideas and policies have created, you have to keep yer trap shut and yer thoughts to yourself for, say, ten years, before your opinion counts for squat.
I'm open to extending "ten years" to "one generation"...
