An NFL Insider Says NFL Teams Want To Know If Manti Te'o Is Gay

After facing the media over the weekend at the NFL Combine, most seem to believe that Manti Te'o has successfully moved on from the fake girlfriend story and that it will have little impact on his status in the NFL draft. However, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com says Te'o's sexuality is still a concern for NFL teams.

Florio appeared on "The Dan Patrick Show" Monday and said flatly, "teams want to know if Manti Te'o is gay," calling it "the elephant in the room." Florio adds that it should not make a difference, but says we have to "step aside from the rest of reality and walk into the unique industry that is the NFL."

As Florio points out, teams probably can't directly ask Te'o that question during their interviews with the former Notre Dame linebacker. But that won't stop teams from trying to find out.

Of course, for some teams, Te'o's sexuality may be less important than just being prepared and knowing what potential media storms they will have to deal with if they were to draft Te'o. And for some teams, the fear of that potential media storm might be enough to skip Te'o's name in the April draft.

I think the dude got mixed up in that deal because there's nothing he wanted MORE than a girlfriend - a real one.
You're a star football player at Notre Dame and you don't have at least ONE girlfriend?
C'mon, there's something seriously wrong here.

Who cares?

My first thought as well. As long as he keeps it out of the faces of his teammates and the public, it's his own business. Pray for the kid as you would for anyone afflicted, should he be outed.

I don’t believe that I said that private businesses should be required to only be concerned about winning and making money.

I simply said that businesses should be be focused on winning and making money. Businesses that do no prioritize winning and making money are very likely to fail.

Dennis Rodman is as disgusting POS as you are likely to stumble across. He was, all in all, a plus for his team on the court. This Manti Te’o seems certain to promise some “mentoring” and unpredictable press attention. It is likely to be just a judgment call on pros (he can play) vs cons (he may be an attention whore). Is Manti a Neon Dieon or a Dennis Rodman.

“I don’t want these pukes playing on my team.”

In my time, I have met some very successful businessmen, some who are worth billions and own very interesting companies.

But, this would be the first time I have had any type of interaction with a genuine NFL team owner. I’m really impressed.

And I support you 100% in your decision not to hire gays to play on your team. After all, it is a private business and you should run that business as you see fit.

Good luck in the upcoming NFL Draft.

If Te'o can win games, no one in a decision-making capacity cares.

Tebow can win games and sell a lot of tickets, yet everyone in the NFL seems to hate him.

Tebow can win games and sell a lot of tickets

NFL coaches and offensive coordinators seem convinced that he actually does not have the skill to win games and that his performance in Denver was an unrepeatable fluke.

I have not seen one coach or OC criticize his beliefs (although quite a few talking heads, some players and also former players have) - but I have seen several cite his stats as being problematic.

And contemporary sports is, you will agree, obsessed with statistical analysis these days.

Would you want privacy in the locker room from those who might be sexually attracted to you?

" C'mon, there's something seriously wrong here. "

Yes, there's a problem of some kind and I don't mean to say there isn't. I'm just not going to jump at the change to speculate.

I’m guessing that a lot of NFL players are on the down low.

UPDATE 8:55 - Eddie Williams, a defensive back who was getting a look at a wide receiver, was also charged on February 10 with carrying a pistol without a license. It’s not known whether this charge led to the other arrests.

Four Alabama Crimson Tide football players were arrested Monday on charges of second degree robbery.

The Jailbase website notes that Eddie Williams, Dennis Pettway, Tyler Hayes and Brent Calloway were booked on charges of second degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card.

HTH could he repeat his success when he sat on the bench the entire season?

He couldn't of course, but he was on the bench because his coaching staff believed that his meager 73 passer rating was as good as he could ever get.

In the meantime, they were convinced that Sanchez's meager 78 passer rating would improve because of his "developing talent."

They saw Tebow as a utility player and Sanchez as a franchise player.

They were clearly wrong about Sanchez - they were probably wrong about Tebow too.

I was in Houston this past weekend for the annual World Championship BBQ and my response to every single one of the TA&M fans that wanted to brag about beating Alabama this past season was “when you get even one crystal football to bring back to College Station we’ll talk then”......most laughed and hugged me but a few got a little snippy! I guess they didn’t like my Nick Chick houndstooth ball cap! LOL RTR!
