I don’t buy into the whole premise. They’ve had over a year to work on this.

“Fiscal cliff”, “Sequestor”. How about calling it what it is. The US is bankrupt due to three generations of consuming more than is produced and subsidizing the non productive. Reckoning cannot be forever postponed.

"Sequester"

The idea originated with the White House. It was sold to Doktor Reid and passed by Congress. Now the chickens have come home to roost.

Hmmm...Obama started a game of "Chicken"...and lost.

The "sequester" is supposed to cut 85 billion dollars, from this and that and everywhere. I propose eliminating the Department of Education, the budget of which last year was 68 billion dollars. That would take care of almost the whole "problem".
Not even liberals would claim that education in this country is better now than it was thirty years ago, when Carter set up the department, as a sop to the teachers' unions.

Congress cannot simply kick the can down the road, again.

Want to bet?

Congress and the President will once again treat the symptoms and let the cancer grow. We are far from the end of the "can kicking". They will continue to kick the can until the economy completely tanks.

There will be no profiles in courage here.

From the same Macbeth scene:

When will Congress deal with spending?

“Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow . . . “

“. . . and all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty [debt]. . .”

Obama is “a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage.”

And the dire warning of the sequester cuts to those massive increases already made, and to those massive spending increases to come, is truly “a tale told by an idiot.”
