“They are giving back to the community,”
...I’m happy for the town, the couple etc. But I can’t stand this phrase! The couple owes the town nothing. They don’t have to “give back” a damn thing! They’re just being generous.

I understand what you’re saying, that to do so is somehow expected, and can’t be attributed to generosity.
A local organ donation group had a similar phrase: “You’ve been given the gift of Life — give it back!” ... very inappropriate, and GOD gives us life to make as we will. If we wish to “pass it on”, that’s our choice as with all our gifts.

I cannot stand that phrase either...Probably started from some greedy, envious democrat to put some business on a guilt trip... The business already gave back by giving jobs that the government can steal from in the form of taxes
