I suppose Karzai is trying to curry favor before the inevitable Talbian recapture of Kabul. Despite his best attempts to suck up to the Taliban, he most likely will share the same fate of Najibullah.

The best Karzai can hope for is either the last plane out of Kabul airport to Switzerland (so he can visit his money), or an Islamic re-education camp — if there is such a thing. My guess is that he gets his throat cut if he misses that last plane.
