Yes, it was Britain’s fault that the Germans under Kaiser Wilhelm spent two decades in a fanatical arms race to try and match the British. Not Willie’s fault, but ours. Yep, I get it.
The Yanks had to save us?. Really?. They didnt arrive until 1917, the British and Aussie and Canadian troops, as well as Indians, had to take the brunt of the Kaiserschlact in easter 1918, as well as the huge brunt of the 100 Day Offensive to drive back the Germans to the border.
There were more Canadians in 1918 than Americans. The Aussies in 1918 did more fighting than the US. Oh, and the US didnt undertake a solo major assault until the battle of St Mihiel in SEPTEMBER 1918, just two months from victory.
Yet the US saved us, not the Aussies or Canucks?. Yeah, ok.
Oh boy, I can see you are biased by your British centric view of history. Not much I can do for you. Britain was a willing participant in the arms race with Germany. Germany was no threat. The Prussian establishment had no interest, absolutely none, in getting involved in a world war. They knew they were not military prepared to take on any of the great powers. The Allied powers did whatever they could to spark the Great War, looking to take Germany down in size.
The Yanks saved you then and saved you in the Great Depression when the federal reserve saved Britain’s outflow of gold. This caused Britain to have a mild recession while Americans suffered. Americans would do well to go back to Jeffersonian ideals and reject the Hamiltonian idea of sucking up to you Brits.
