No, I think Condi is still a female underneath all of her
responsibilities. Remember, it’s the women who always pay
the price when there is a war. They lose their sons and
husbands or they return home with horrendous injuries. And
when the war is over and they are on the losing side, they
can expect to be raped. The German women in Berlin paid a huge price when Berlin fell to the Russians in 1945.

In spring 2004, U.S. intelligence reported multiple communications between Syria and North Korea, and traced the calls to a desert location called al-Kibar.

The U.S. early info was 2004 and the air strike was Sep 2007

There then began a four-month process of extremely close cooperation with Israel about the reactor, called al-Kibar. As soon as our own intelligence had confirmed the Israeli information and we all agreed on what we were dealing with, Hadley established a process for gathering further information, considering our options, and sharing our thinking with Israel. This process was run entirely out of the White House, with extremely limited participation to maintain secrecy. The effort at secrecy succeeded and there were no leaks—an amazing feat in Washington, especially when the information being held so tightly was as startling and sexy as this.

Bombing the Syrian Reactor: The Untold Story

No kidding. Never mind the fuss over the code name for Obama's Israel visit, *this* was the operation whose name was truly - and ironically - lost in translation.

Operation Orchard was

Operation PaRDeS

Peshat (פְּשָׁט) — "plain" ("simple") or the direct meaning.[1]
Remez (רֶמֶז) — "hints" or the deep (allegoric: hidden or symbolic) meaning beyond just the literal sense.
Derash (דְּרַשׁ) — from Hebrew darash: "inquire" ("seek") — the comparative (midrashic) meaning, as given through similar occurrences.
Sod (סוֹד) (pronounced with a long O as in 'bone') — "secret" ("mystery") or the esoteric/mystical meaning, as given through inspiration or revelation.

Boot the letter dalet (the Derash) and it spells פָּרָס.

Wonder if Iran is paying attention.

No President with any intelligence admits to anyone how good or bad his intelligence really is.

IIRC, “pardes” is also a Persian word for “garden.”

Yes. Pardes as a garden, orchard, the root for the English word for paradise... all related.

I attended all these meetings as note taker, and the notes are under lock and key at the National Archives.

Yep, we all know how secure that is since Clinron's NSC advisor Sandy Berger walked out of the archives with classified docs in his socks and stuffed in his pants.

I’d best read the article and your erudite comment later today, given I’m just about ready to call this one a night.

[A very well-placed Arab diplomat later told us that the strike had left Assad deeply worried as to what was coming next.]

The U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003 threw the whole Middle East into a panic. Iran, fearful of where Bush might strike next, temporarily suspended its nuclear weapons program. Muammar Gaddafi, after watching on TV the capture of Saddam by U.S. soldiers agreed to give up his chemical weapons, end Libya's nuclear research and normalize relations with the U.S. Tragically the news media and Congressional Democrats became a literal Fifth Column, attacking Bush and vilifying the war.

That is the exactly thought that was going through my mind while reading this whole article. Now think of the players involved in such a meeting today.

Yikes.

Thanks neverdem. Here's the popup I got from clicking on that "how criminals guess your PIN":

Relations between the United States and Israel had grown rocky after Israel’s incursion into Lebanon in 2006, for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice believed the Israelis had mishandled both the military and the diplomatic sides of the conflict.
Cundi also expressed her opinion that Israel is the Sheriff Clark of the current time, and supported Zero for Prez, twice, because of his skin tone, making her (not surprisingly) a racist.

At that point, Fayyad had been prime minister for about a month, and already the PA was changing. It now had a serious, talented, incorruptible executive at the top of the government.

What?
