SANTA FE (KRQE) - A unique solution to a shortage of gift cards and a big mistake led to the personal information of dozens who participated in Santa Fe's gun buyback program open to the public.
"It shouldn't have happened, but it did," said Santa Fe Police Department Chief Raymond Rael. "I apologize on behalf of the city, I don't think that information should've been out there."

Korean War "assault weapon" is probably a M1 Carbine, though it could be a MI Garand. Both are highly desirable collector items that bring from $800 to $2,000. Turning one in at a gun "buy back" is wasteful. Dean Weingarten
Liberals and do-goooders never see beyond their immediate desires.
So there are always things that shouldn't happen, but always do.
But it never slows them down and they are always ready to forgive themselves.
After all - they truly believe the end justifies whatever they do because they really mean well - really, really.
I agree that that's how they think, but it's not good enough. Not because of these type unintended consequences they get because they're stupid and incompetent, but rather because no one died and left them the sole prerogative to define "well" as in they "mean well".
I don't want the world they're trying to create and they have no more authority than I to decide which ends are "good". Less, actually, both because I'm smarter than they are (the liberal standard for deciding who's in charge) AND because in my ideal world I'm not trying to tyrannize them, while in their ideal, they DO tyrannize me (conservative/libertarian standard).
It’s not just the privacy issue but a typical government scam. So, the first group of IOUs were never paid off and now there’s a second group. Next time there will be another group and another and another. Hey, if they keep delaying payment maybe they’ll never have to pay for goods delivered. Reminds me of my county guilting people who were called in for jury duty to donate their $5 back to the county. Just be honest and tell people up front they get zip.
Sure....it was an accident, thats the ticket.
What a bunch of idiots.
If you participated in the New Mexico gun buyback program, you might as well put a sign out in your front yard that says, “Burglars, rapists and home invaders welcome! We gave away all our guns in the gun buyback program, so the best we can do against you would be dialing 911 and waiting for help to arrive.”
