Dems: Obama Doesn’t Need Congress For Immigration Reform, You Know

Democratic lawmakers seem confident immigration reform will happen in the near future because even if Congress doesn’t act, the president will move forward with executive orders, they say. Via The Hill:

"I don't think the president will be hands off on immigration for any moment in time," Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), the head of the House Democratic Caucus, told reporters this week. "He's ready to move forward if we're not."

Rep. Joseph Crowley (N.Y.), vice chairman of the Democratic Caucus, echoed that message, saying Obama is "not just beating the drum," for immigration reform, "he's actually the drum major."

"There are limitations as to what he can do with executive order," Crowley said Wednesday, "but he did say that if Congress continued to fail to act that he would take steps and measures to enact common-sense executive orders to move this country forward."

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.), who heads the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said there are "plenty" of executive steps Obama could take if Congress fails to pass a reform package. "The huge one," Grijalva said, is "the waiving of deportation" in order to keep families together.

"Four million of the undocumented [immigrants] are people who overstayed their visas to stay with family," he said Friday. "So that would be, I think, an area in which … there's a great deal of executive authority that he could deal with."

While working through Congress is the preferable method for Democrats and Obama, these lawmakers are probably correct. Although it wasn’t an executive order, we already saw Obama act unilaterally last year when he dramatically changed immigration policy by halting the deportation of younger illegal immigrants. But if the president waves deportation as Grijalva suggests, he would be opening the floodgates for an even bigger illegal immigration problem down the road. 1986, anyone? Yes, key figures from both sides of the political aisle are working on immigration reform but amnesty shouldn’t be part of Congress or the president’s plan.

In the meantime, however, let’s not forget that illegal immigration is still a crime.

I predicted this last June....

If Obama was re-elected, Amnesty would be absolutely certain.

The magic words are “Executive Order” and “Deferred Enforcement.”

Obama is currently doing it in small pieces.

The DREAM Act will legalize at least 1 million.

Family Unification will legalize at least 1 million more.

Essentially, all the federal immigration laws remain the same, but they will not be enforced for a set period of time until certain issues can be legislated or clarified by the courts.

That's how the DREAM Act works - two years of no enforcement for illegals brought here as children, but not now older than 30.

And there's more.....

All the DREAM Act “kids” are immediately eligible for Social Security numbers and “Green Cards.”

A “Green Card” essentially confers all legal rights to the recipient except the right to vote.

Jobs, welfare, passport, almost everything comes with a Green Card.

Once they have Green Cards, there is ZERO possibility that any legislation will EVER be passed that would take their Green Cards away and deport them back to their home country.

If Obama can't get Amnesty by legislation, he will decree it by Executive Order!

Next stop after Green Cards?

Citizenship!

By the way, 80% of new citizens vote for the Democrat Party.

In terms of political power, Conservatives are toast, probably in 2014, certainly in 2016.

10,

Obama has ALREADY signed two Executive Orders on illegal immigrants, and Congress has not whispered ONE word of challenge.

The DREAM Act - already in force, at least 1 million eligible.

The Family Reunification Order - begins in March (as I recall), at least 1 million more eligible.

The illegals who “qualify” will receive Green Cards.

I say “qualify” because everyone knows that more than 99% will be waved through without ANY verification.

Re: “100 years of Liberalism”

I disagree.

I think modern Liberalism began with Teddy Roosevelt in 1901.

Teddy, in my opinion, was the first center-left Republican president.

bill,

You left one important name out of your Amnesty Hall of Shame....

Ronald Reagan.

In 1986 Reagan gave Amnesty to almost 3 million illegal immigrants, most of them Hispanic.

How did Hispanics respond politically?

The same way Hispanics always respond to the GOP.

72% of them voted AGAINST George H.W. Bush in 1988!

Well...yes. Sigh. That is true. See, even in spite of myself, I always fail to include him. I always admired him before I understood what he was.

It is a personal failing on my part to have not included him.

“...and those who way overesttimate their own intellect.”

Ever notice that Progressives become brilliant,
really-really smart, intellectual geniuses when they become Progressives and Christians become the morons of the world?

Just saying.

IMHO

But Reagan did admit he made a mistake in the ‘86 amnesty deal, because he was led to believe that the number to be amnestied was 800,000. It turned out to be over 3 million.

But he was working in a world of unknowns and best guesses. The current crop of Republican morons now has 27 years of experience on the damage that amnesty can do, but they just go ahead and do it.

One can understand democrats - it means power in perpetuity.

It is the stupidity and greed of the Republicans that shakes one’s head. Amnesty is suicide. If it goes through, there will be no Republican party in a generation or less. There will be a democrat party, and there will be a Partidad de la Raza, once the hispanic vote reaches the magic 51% and they realize they no longer need the democrats. That would be a final irony, but I won’t be around to face it.
